Jumped in the polo, my sister driving and as she was backing out she managed to run into the bloody Megane. The Renault's got a few tiny scratches on the rear black bumper bit, but the rear bumper on the Polo's ruined on the driver's side corner.
Assuming you have comprehensive insurance, I would just pay the $500 excess and you can have both cars looking like new again

Me thinks that would be 500 excess for each claim, so $1000? Assuming they are with the same insurance company of course.

No, you only pay one excess for an accident, not twice.
