    Bonnet/hood lining.

Would there be any adverse effects from removing the bonnet lining? And what is the main purpose of it anyway?

The engine noise will certainly be more evident.

As well as noise insulation it acts as a heat insulator protecting the paintwork of the bonnet from engine heat. Also helps the engine heat up quicker from cold & helps retain heat.

I doubt anything terrible would happen in the short term.

There are plenty of cars out there that have none from factory. And off the top of my head, corolla sedans come with a "sound pad", but the hatches don't.

I've always been lead to believe they were mainly for sound insulation

    Bonnet/hood lining.

Is it on a GTI or just a TSI? The GTI has a heat sheiks built in because of how close the turbo is to the bonnet so it would be a brave soul to remove it. On the tsi's I've looked at under the hood, the turbo is far enough away for it not to really have any adverse effect I can think of.

wouldn't be able to tell the difference with temps/warm up times as no gauge on TSI dash.

Really? That's a bit low rent.

As an example, on the Skoda Octavia they fit the insulator to all the diesel models because the quicker they get up to temp, the more efficient the engine is. It's a bit colder over there though.

My 1.8TSI came without the insulator & I paid to get one as I wanted the extra sound insulation & heat protection for the bonnet paint.

I really doubt it would make a huge difference if you removed yours.

    Bonnet/hood lining.

Why would you want to remove it?

I dont think that it has any benefit when warming up other than standing still idling in a traffic jam, when driving any heat is blown away by the driving wind.

My guess is sound isolation for main purpose
