    Black Spots on Tailgate

Guys, my car is starting to look like a dalmation, washed it Friday, did 200km and now it looks like this.

Trivett VW reckon it's dirt. Yeah right, it smears like nutella.
It gets worse as the week goes on.

    Any ideas?

My diesel polo has it too! Kind of gets hidden with the car being blue...

Someone suggested it being tar from roadworks etc?

    -------

On the topic of fuel : Go shell, more like go to hell! Shell fuels are rubbish, in particular diesel. I get an extra 150km per tank from mobil or BP diesel.

Hmm interesting its on a 77TSI...

First off how many KM have you done?

    Any oil consumption issues?

And lastly how long are your trips (average) and how do you drive it - baby it, or actually drive it?

I personally haven't had any problems with mine but the again i drive about 2 hours each day which really warms the exhaust up and blows all the excess carbon out.

If you only do short trips chances are it's just excess carbon - which goes to my next point that if you are babying it, it won't clear out the carbon

Hopefully it's just that and not oil consumption related

Also I find on hot days I get more carbon buildup on the exhaust tip (a black tip after 2 weeks in summer where as I can go through the whole winter clean) this is because the engine runs slightly richer to prevent knocking - idle is slightly up as well (varies from 650 to 800rpm (600 normal)

At the moment i've just passed 5500km.

On average, my trips are mostly motorway related and last anywhere from 10 minutes to an hourish. average trip is about 20km. The trips I have done just recently (as per my first post) were long trips and on the highway.

No oil consumption issues, still as full as the day I bought it (2 months ago)

    I wouldn't say I baby it, but I wouldn't say I'm a hoon either. I drive "normally" haha.

My Idle is normally around 650 all the time. Hot or cold days, except for cold start which is about 1000rpm.

I like my stainless exhaust tip, but having it go black in a week frustrates me...
