I see this all the time with the golf R and Sirocco R when they pull away so I don't think it's a fault, maybe its just how they are designed - run rich on take off to prevent pinging???
followed my gti the other day and noticed a heap of black smoke every time car accelerated away from a standstill at a red light or round about , car also has alot of black soot on rear bumper and boot from new. dealer is going to replace injectors on monday, had to order them in, they said they put a camera through spark plug hole and could see them dripping. car is 5 months old with 6000 ks on it

Yeah I've even seen a TSI Tiguan doing that and a few Golf GTI's.

Yeah, rich down low and too lean up top.

Get the breather hose replaced at VW... Stops it chewing oil as well.

This soot is killing me at the moment, its hard to keep the hatch clean, even after 1 hr driving after cleaning, its gone all sooty...
VW told me its "normal"
ARRG!
NOPE NOT NORMAL!
The black smoke (unburnt fuel) IS normal for these high performance engines as they run rich on take off (look at a Golf or Sirocco R). The oil specs on the back are NOT. This has to do with the fact that oil is going straight past the piston rings (or through the intake) and going straight out the exhaust in a liquid form, its not even burning it!
Just run your fingers along the inside of the exhaust tip. Either way you will get black stuff but pure carbon looks and feels like black chalk, its a powder - if there is oil mixed in with the carbon you will feel it, it's like black slime.
Knowing these motors you probably just have ridiculously high oil consumption like the rest...
Welcome to GTI ownership. Bain of my existence! Especially with a white car.......

That is right, im getting a little over 1L/1000km, but was getting much higher before the ventilation pipe change.
My consumption test starts 21st May. Watch my car use no oil during that test for some reason.
