Bilstein B14 coilover creak and pop

Hi all I have a bilstein b14 coilover kit on my gti and when turning the steering wheel slowly to the left when either stationary or moving slow there is a creaking popping noise coming from the front left strut

The car had done 11500 miles and the coil overs have been on for the last 3000 or so miles so surely it couldn't be top mounts just yet?? I've give them a clean tonight and the noise is still present so just wondering if anybody has any ideas?

    Thanks in advance

I have a stock setup and I too get the pop occasionally when going into driveways / lips etc, I think it has something to do with design of the strut but since it's been doing it from new I don't worry myself about it.

That's odd! Yesterday when having a look I took off the top mount cover after putting its part no. In on google (6Ro.412.359) I found a TPI which basically says that water from the washer jets gets onto the bearing and causes it to rust!! I'm going to take the strut out at some point this week to have a proper look and if this is the case I will take the car back to my local dealer.

After taking the car to the dealer and them cleaning the strut and checking the bearing the noise disappeared for a short while but has now come back!!

I'm starting to think it may be the spring binding was just wondering if anyone else has had this issue and how they resolved it?

    Cheers

The pop sound you get is the air box mount expanding as the car flexes going into driveways and over speed humps etc. after many, many attempts to locate it on pontiff's car, we eventually found it by bouncing on everything under the bonnet. It sounded like a gearbox mount but yeah, it was the air box mount.

Hi all, i have been suffering from a popping noise at low speed and when turning.

After taking my coilovers back out and inspecting everything i have come to the conclusion that the top cap is rubbing in the inside of the top mount!

I applied some grease which stopped the noise for a couple of months but it has now returned. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue? The car has been lowered about 50mm

The top strut mount SHOULD NOT turn on the strut tower, it should stay in a fixed position. If it's moving, it equals bad times so I'd first be raising the car back up to confirm where the noise is coming from. If it's still there, refer to my last post.
