    Beginner Mods (2011 Polo 66TDI)

Looking for some suggestions / ideas on some modifications for my Polo. I have only had the car for about 6 months, and am looking to make some relatively simple / cheap mods. Nothing drastic as i want to keep the vehicle fairly stock for re-selling in the future. A few ideas i have had are:

    • Darker tint
    • Get the car lowered (As the arse end is too damn high!)
    • Bigger Wheels. The Syenit 16" Alloy Wheels look good in my opinion, but seem way to expensive from the dealer.
    • Xenon Headlamps (much of an effort to swap over?)

If anyone has any cheaper options, or would like to point me in the right direction for some of these mods, sing out!

Hey grizzly, welcome ot the forum to start with!

To give you some of my opinions on what you are planning to do, 2 of them are visual so i will stay away from that, being a designer in the automotive field, I try and stay away form trying to influence people as 9 times out of 10, they just ignore me anyway

In regards to lowering, I would go for a set of matched springs and dampers or some good coilovers, don't go lower than maybe 40mm in the rear and 25 at the front from stock, otherwise with the front end setup on these cars, you're just going to ruin your handling, that lower control arm is meant to point down, not horizontal and most definitley not up!

Xenons, mate, don't bother. You will be looking at around $3000 to do it properley, you could buy just aftermarket globes and ballasts but then you will have people like me telling you that you are an inconsiderate p**ck because you might have better headlights now, but you're blinding the crap out of your fellow road users.

How is the power from the little oiler? If it's a bit slow maybe go for a diesel chip they seem to have pretty good gains.

Power is average, but the torque is great. Actually makes the car extremely fun to drive.

How would i go about getting more information on chip upgrades for a diesel? Do they void the Volkswagen Warranty?

Here... hold this can of worms for me while I elaborate...

    The short answer is maybe.

I have heard both extremes in this discussion, everything is void and nothing is void if you tune the ECU.

Technically the warranty is not void unless VW can attribute the failure to the work you have done, so your electric windows are still covered as is your airbag. Now if the turbo goes bang they could say it's your fault for pushing it too hard, same pretty much goes for everything else in the engine/drive train.

It has been said that they have to *PROVE* your mods did the damage... of course when the dealer is the one holding your keys and all the spare parts they simply have the option to say NO and it would then be up to you to fight them and that's not something I would want to take on.

Reality is it will depend on what breaks, which dealer you are using, what your relationship is like (what your attitude is like) and of course if they are aware of the tune The best advice is to be aware of what a replacement engine is worth and be prepared to "pay to play" if the worst happens and you're left on your own. (Of course you could simply look as it as an opportunity to build it bigger and better while putting all the pieces back together ).

Tis is a question best answered like this:

Look into the tuning section of the forum Not trying to be rude, but this as well as countless other topics is covered in great depth, if you don't mind sifting through all the crap about the size of people's p... sorry, tunes.

In regards to tuning, i would recommend Simon at Viezu Australia, Kaanage and Buller_Scott are both running diesel tunes from them (well, technically ChippedUK) and they both seem extremely pleased with them. Don't know if they do the 66kwTDI motor yet though.
