Hi FJ Steve, boy do I hear you...
Can I suggest (if you are loosing faith in your dealer or they are not giving you clear/sufficient info) to contact Volkswagen Australia directly by filling in the on-line query form. Here is the link...Volkswagen Contact Us > metacontent > Volkswagen Australia.

I did this the day I called my dealer and found out the delay had blown out to 6 months. Not satisfied with the rather offhand manner I went on-line, found the 'contact us' section at the VW Australia site and went directly to the source. Filled in the form Friday lunchtime, got a phone call Tues lunchtime. Can't fault that service at least!. Anyway, the person on the phone had the database up as we talked and walked me through the stages the car had passed, and the system dates. They were happy to answer any questions I had, offered to investigate further into why the delay occurred. Still not good news for me, but it's nice to know there is an alternate avenue than just the dealer.

About 3 weeks ago, I put a deposit down on a TSI that the dealer had already ordered. They said that it's due 23/11 but I still don't have a VIN. Is this to be expected?

Did you ask for the VIN??? Some dealer might be lazy and skipped the process.

Happened to me, didn't get the VIN until I got the car, but thats because I am also very lazy at chase them up for it...

And there was no delay for me, so good luck!

    aaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnnnndddddddddddd

another delay. Advised by VW Australia (this morning) that we would be lucky to see the car off loaded the ship (in Perth) before Christmas. Apparently production is delayed as they try to recover form an 8 day strike in August at the Port Elizabeth plant. VW source claims it will create a 4 - 6 week delay on all orders.

Now I'm starting to get pissed.

There seems to have been strike action in August and September - see attached link found on the net - so surely VW would know to moderate peoples expectations on delivery dates?. Call me cynical, but I'm hearing more and more about dealers taking buyers 'out of the market' to ensure they get the sale only to advise later of a production issue causing delays that would (or should) have surely been known?

we entered the contract in June. I don't think it is reasonable to expect the dealership to have known about the strike at that time. Also...my source is not at the dealership, but within VW Australia.

Point: The dealership have little or no idea about what is going on. There are same spec'd cars on carsales (Eastern States) as to the one we have ordered...but not in the colour we asked for.

I discussed the future of our contract with the dealership, with my wife this afternoon. Her immediate reaction was to get our deposit back and start the hunt again for another car. This is an option I was not keen on. She has now resigned herself to waiting a bit longer. Besides...she's happy 'cos she gets to drive the .:R for a bit longer.

This is a perfect oppurtunity since your cars are not built yet to speak to dealer principles with copies of the contract and negotiate for some special attention such as factory fitted options, i guarantee you there is a lot of people who don't even come on this forum who are like you guys.

Be heard, be Australian and get a good bargain for your loyalty, either that or VW might want to consider an on flow of (to the head executives) measly $28-32k sales which will add up to hurting the company at the end of the financial year.
