APR stage 1 on 6R Polo GTI and European Autotech

Anyone in NSW do their ECU upgrade here? Thoughts?

I bought my car almost a year ago (turns 1 in 8 days!) and am thinking about a tune.

Arthur at ExoctiCars was honest about GIAC and some issues they've had with the Polos and the tune but I've not come across bad experiences with the APR and seen almost nothing here on the REVO tune.

Anyone care to point me in the right direction here? (aside from the large thread on the APR tune for the 6R, more so looking for experiences with EA and any bad experiences, damage etc from the APR tune?)

You can't go wrong with an APR tune. Viezu is the only other one that I know of that doesn't have problems but then again, I don't know of anyone running the GIAC tune so I don't know how there are any 'issues' especially as you have probably gone and spoken to an APR dealer, no?

REVO have problems, I'll put it that simply. Nearly everyone I have spoken to that has had a REVO tune has gone elsewhere. Contrary to what REVO say, it seems that their programming actually harms the engine rather than making it safer.

i have Viezu and couldn't be happier. The torque delivery is killer and fuel economy dropped by 1L/100kms over the average cycles. Others on here (fastlane especially) can attest to what my car is like

    Thanks Gavs!

I have not spoken to anyone at APR, i did post on their FB page asking and they claim no issues.

I spoke to a GIAC dealer in Sydney who is quite reputable and he was very candid and honest that it wasnt quite stable so he didnt recommend it. Which i appreciate.

It seems APR is widely used on this forum (along with the Viezu tune you speak of) and im yet to find too much bad feedback which makes me feel a bit more confident that i wont be damaging my car with the tune.

I've been doing a lot of googling and forum searching and it seems APR is well received.

My cousin has the Revo tune on his A1 and likes it a lot and is without issue but obviously its a different car with a similar engine.

Is that the place out Manly way? If so thats where I had my APR tune done and all's good almost a year on now. Real nice guys and helpful too. I also bought an APR cooler and HP cai from them. I'll be getting them to install the cooler and a miltek tbe soon after my first service.

Understand your warranty could be adversely affected.

APR is a reputable brand, it's VW who would screw you.

APR's been fine on my car for past 50,000kms. Just look after the clutches by not putting too much stress on them (goes for all tunes with high torque)

Thanks for your input Ryan. What do you mean by look after the clutches? You mean dont rev too hard too frequently? Can you elaborate?

Don't floor it at low revs (there's plenty of torque to do it but the transmission won't like it), and if in manual mode and racing from the standstill, be careful not to shift too early before redline at full load (inserting a torque arm insert bushing helps with this but adds vibrations when reversing uphill)
