Had a read of the article. Sounds like the little polo is quite the rocket, right on the heels of the APR golf with much less power. Will be interested to see what's in store with the bigger snail and new diff.

I think I'm one of the first (the first?) to get the APR stage 1 tune and this should be the first thing you do after taking delivery of your GTI. Well worth the $$$.

Regarding the Motor tuning article and the Pog GTI - does anyone feel that the larger intercooler is a neccessary item if any sort of tuning is going to happen? I'm considering the Stage 1, but not sure about changing the intercooler too.

The reduction of charged air temps from the intercooler is simply amazing. So it will DEFINITELY be advantageous to have the intercooler. However, it's not "required" for the Stage 1 ECU tune.
So my advice is to grab a Stage 1 ECU flash, and then evaluate from there if you are interested in performing hardware modifications, and if so, the downpipe and intercooler should definitely be on your list of items to consider
Just to be clear - a stage 1 APR tune is invisible? My only concern is that if someone knows what they're looking for, won't they be able find it or see evidence that it is there?

I could be wrong here, but if a dealer plays with the cruise control stalk and finds there's a security lock, isn't that a dead giveaway that the ECU has an APR tune? There has also been talk on the forum that the APR tune writes codes into the ECU such that no other tuning companies can add there own? and corrupts the original stock tune to a certain extent. And what of this anti-tune talk issue that's going around? Has VW blocked upgrades via the OBDII port? All very confusing at the moment and obviously I'm no expert in this field

Nothing is invisible... not even the air around us. If you know what you're looking for, you can see anything with the right tools. However, as has been mentioned at least 500 times by myself alone, lol, the APR flash reads the "counter" and puts the same figure back in, has a "Security Lockout" feature which disables the switching, meaning that if you put it into stock and then lock it, the dealer won't notice it. If the dealers had the software, hardware, and knowledge that the aftermarket tuners did, then they would still be able to tell that something was there - but they don't. If they think something is wrong, they just put the latest stock flash on there and overwrite whatever you've done
