APR DSG tune for the GTI 6R, thoughts/reviews?

So I'm looking at what's next for the car, last night in discussions with my cousin who is driving the Audi A1 with a REVO tune we were discussing stage 2 tunes and he was advised not to go stage 2 as the engine is small and can't handle a lot more tuning (I have the APR stage 1).

This concluded with us also ruling out the turbo back exhaust as it also requires a stage 2 tune.

Correct me if I'm wrong but a cat back exhaust AFAIK is more for sound and less for performance. We both like the existing exhaust note and have the resi delete already.

So we then talked about other "safe" upgrades (CAI's, intercoolers) and invariably the DSG tune.

Have many people got the APR DSG tune? Reviews? Thoughts? Good?

    Yes I tried search..

Question is what are you looking to achieve from a DSG tune?

I'd only be looking at DSG software if you really don't like the shifting of the stock software.

Honestly modding is like crack and I just want to get the best performance from my car, but never track it, and not do anything that will break the car too much, if its too stressful or risky, i dont want to do it.

So things that came to mind were:

    CAI
    Intercooler
    Exhaust system
    DSG tune

...I kind of want an awesome signature like yours! Riddled with mods haha

To answer your question, i have no issues with the DSG gear changing..I did read its good for the gear box and the car and removes lag issues etc, but i've never really noticed any issues.

On the 7 speed DSG our software will give you much longer clutch life as well as all the extra driveability features. It also allows full engine torque to be transmitted!

Thanks guy! So it'll change the driving experience? How does it combine with the APR stage 1 i just recently got? Getting the HP CAI this weekend too! Planning a full APR Polo 6R!

I would say that the dsg tune should be done before anything else on these cars because it will not only make the car more enjoyable to drive, it also extends component life over the idiotic VW software. I'm saving for a dsg tune post recall because I really don't trust VW in putting any form of decent software in the car after carrying out the recall.

Slightly off topic, I'd just love to know where your cousin got that information because I've been running stage 2 for around 20,000kms now with the only adverse effect being sore cheeks from grinning.

Main reason I did my DSG tune was to enable first gear to re-engage at low speed and to make D mode better for general driving.

List of mods is pretty much limited to your budget. Different people will do things in different order.

Main performance mods are tune and the DP. Though with FWD cars you start to need to look at how best to maintain traction once you've tuned it. Suggest looking at some suspension/tyre/wheel options here.

CAI and exhaust are mostly for noise (no matter what people try to tell you).

Intercooler is to maintain performance in hot weather or repeated runs. Definitely something you'd want to look at if you were running on the track but probably limited benefit on the road unless you like to thrash your car in hot weather.

Yeah and I know modding is addictive

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Next question, there's standard DSG tune $795 or performance DSG tune $995, anyone got the performance one? Comparisons?

Hi, Guy, how does the DSG tune preserve the life of the clutches? (I am about to get my 3rd set in 36k km)
Also, how is fuel economy affected?
Also, you guys had a custom clutch pack on your project Polo, if memory serves, but it's not offered by APR? Why not?
