APR / DNA Tuning / HP (Harding performance) what's the difference?

    Hey guys,

Hate to ask a stupid question but the more I try to figure this out the more I get confused...

I'm looking to get a ECU tune for my 1.2 TSI.

Apparently from what i can tell poking around the net there are 3 versions from 3 different companies (I think):

    APR
    DNA
    HP

What's the differences (features, performance if any) between these compainies and price if anyone knows.

The reason I'm confused is that I went down to Volkspower in Burwood who are Victorias APR dealer and asked what other versions there are. When I said what about the DNA tune I was told HP are the Australian dealer, DNA are the people who install the software and APR are the ones who make the software.

If I heard this correctly doesn't that mean that there is only 1 version - APR's?

    Anyway thanks for the help!

um that doesnt seem right at all, now someone correct me if im wrong but firstly DNA is its own company and supply a seperate tune that, as far as i know, is the only one in australia to currently supply a tune for the 1.2 TSI, which is what i assume is what you are looking for.
secondly, HP is the same as APR, or at least i think so.

hope that clears it up abit

HP are the importer/distributor for APR which is a US based tuning company. There are a number of workshops around the country which are agents for APR tunes.

DNA is another tuning company and separate from APR/HP.

There is a company called DNA Performance who are a local APR dealer. They sometimes get confused with DNA Tuning.

There is also Custom Code and Viezu that do tuning... and probably others I am forgetting right now

In very round numbers all the various companies will give you around the same torque and kW increases, they are after all playing with the same equipment and essentially tweaking the settings (which is a waaay over simplified way putting it).

In any case, if all you are ever going to want is a stage 1 tune, then I usually tell people to pick the tuner who provides the best service closest to your house/work then go with whatever brand they sell.

Harding Performance are the importers of APR LLC

DNA Performance are one of our dealers http://dna-performance.com.au

I think you want DNA tuning which are not associated with us.

P.S. APR don't have a tune for the 1.2 at the moment sorry.

Thanks for clearing that up guys, much appreciated!

Also Guy H are you positive you guys don't have a tune for the 1.2 TSI? The guy at Volkspower who I got to look it up said there was one and costs $1250 (and it came with the security lockout and some other stuff I didn't quite understand).

If you guys don't have one any idea when it's due out?

I'm pretty sure Guy would know mate, the USA doesn't get the polo and Harding Performance / APR Australia wrote the tuning program for the 6R polo. Although the uk is having their own go at it now because they're, well, poms

APR is the only one I know that can select different programs (stock/performance) via the cruise control stalk (if your car has one) which is handy since you don't have to carry a device around or go back to the workshop to change, in case you want to try and hide it when visiting a dealer, or perhaps when out in the country where there's a chance you won't find 98-RON petrol.

Doesn't help you but might be useful for future searchers.
