To fit a towbar you WILL need to go genuine, the issue will be the electrical harness, and no-one does this after market. Expect to pay a small fortune.
The towing capacity that VW do not advertise but the one that WILL limit what you can tow is the towball download limit.
My experience is with my passat, cost $1500 upwards depending on dealer, 2000 Kg towing capacity but a ball download limit of only 85 Kg. In Australia anything you tow usually has a ball download of 10% of gross weight. In my case a 2000 Kg limit is nonsense as the ball download restricts me to 850 Kg or, in reality, a box trailer.
On a pro rata basis if a polo ball download limit is (say) 45 Kg then your quad plus trailer will need to be around 450 Kg so check all your numbers carefully.
For those that may say that the ball download limits are unreasonable, the limit is determined by the ability of the rear suspension to absorb that load, not the towbar. I have seen what 200Kg of pool salt in the back of the Passat boot does to the rear end, one up. I would hate to think of the drag ar$e with 4 adults aboard plus holiday luggage in boot plus 85 Kg download on the towball.
