u kno DSG is faster, because its double clutch and essentially minimizes power loss, nobody who drives a manual can shift faster. Not even the great drift king Tsuchiya can shift faster than DSG, there's a video on it as well
So i had to sell my 77TSI manual because we have a second baby on the way, and wife can't drive manual so we needed to get an auto so we could swap cars easier. So i went ahead and sold my Pepper Grey 77TSI (as per sig below). I was very sad to see it go, but got decent money for it.
Looked around for the last 2 weeks at all brands and all cars. Brand new, second hand, demo. BMW, Audi, VW, Holden, Ford, even Citroen and Skoda. Could not find a car i liked to drive, that was decent value.
So what did i do? i went and bought a Pepper Grey DSG 77TSI from my favourite salesman, with Audio, Comfort, Sports, Tint and just to be different, a sunroof.
I was tentative to drive the 77tsi DSG, as i thought the auto box would slow the cars zippy output, but boy was i wrong. It drives very nicely, and in some ways because i drive 2 hours a day to work and back, the dsg will be very suited to me.
Reinforces how great a car the polo is, and also how good the value is.

yeah.... hence why it's more technically called and "Automated Manual Gearbox", because it is two manual gearboxes, including two clutches and selectors, integrated into the one gearbox with a "Mechatronics" to perform the shifting and clutch operations for you. There is no torque convertor or anything else icky like in traditional auto gearboxes.
You're not crazy for buying a DSG now... you're only crazy because you DIDN'T test drive a DSG and buy one the first time around
Congrats on your new car.
Yes, welcome to the land of DSG (I've been there since 2005 when I got my Golf TDI 2.0).
The funniest thing is there's people out there that will always be "anti-auto". No matter how good an auto gets, they say the bond with a manual stick is something no DSG/auto will ever replace. When one of my friends starts his rant, he always tries to ask me "How many clutches has your Golf got?"
I reply "2".
His head spins for a few seconds, before he asks the right question of how many clutch peddles I have, but by then everyone is cracking up because I technically won![]()
I'll remember that. I'm one of 'those' people who prefer the feeling of changing gears manually rather than by a flick of the wrist with a DSG. I did test drive a DSG Polo and although I liked its sharp and yet smooth gear transitions, it just didn't seem right to me.
I actually had issues finding a manual car for when I lived over in California. Not just a manual car I liked, but a manual in general. Took me 3 weeks of searching to find one (within my budget) in the entire bay area. Thats how badly I wanted a manual car!![]()

well either way, both manual and DSG are dependent on what the driver wants, hey i like physically shifting too. but for me i go through traffic wayyyyyy too often, and so DSG was the better option
The reason I think you are crazy is not that you bought a manual and then sold it and got a DSG, but the fact that you bought a car that your wife can't drive. What would have happened if her car was in an accident and she needed your car to get around?
Or if you both go out in your car and you can't drive home because you got drunk or sick - she won't be able to drive you both home. Sure, the likelihood of this happening probably isn't great but it's still there.

Comon people, this thread wasn't really about my crazy factor, it was just a good title to get people to read. It was supposed to be another glowing report on the 77tsi

i previously had a 2002 or so silver astra manual and loved the manual side
wanted to test drive a manual polo but none available so test drove the dsg instead and was very impressed
even better is drop it to sports and see your car from the lights just fly like the wind
just not as fast as the gti would but still give u a good thrill
