    Airbag Error?

    Hi guys,

Over the long weekend I installed Dynamat in the front doors for which I had to pull off the door trims and disconnect all cables inside.

After forgetting to reattach the electric window cable on the passenger door, I had a yellow airbag warning symbol on the dash and a MFD message "Error: Airbag" whenever I started the car. The message would disappear but the yellow warning symbol would stay. Reattaching the cable fixed the issue.

However, after doing the driver side door (in one go, no driving in between) and securely reattaching all cables inside, I keep getting the airbag error message and light.

Any ideas as to why that might be? Anyone ever had this issue? I thought I'd ask here before heading to the dealership and potentially having to pay a fortune to fix this...

    Thanks in advance guys!

Could be that an error has been stored inside the module and it just needs clearing with VCDS or by the dealer.

Worse case scenario is that you have damaged one of the airbags / sensors or the control module. It states in the workshop manual that the battery must be disconected before any work is done to them becuase power is allways supplied to the various components in the event of an accident.

VCDS isn't without its risks either as earlier versions could brick the control module. Long story short VCDS couldn't talk to the module correctly and the airbag unit is very fussy. I'm pretty sure this has been patched but still somthing to think about.

Thanks for the hint. I really only gently unplugged the cables and then reconnected them , so I don't think I'd have damaged anything. Will have to check with the dealer though.

If you want i can have a look with VCDS before you go to the dealer and probably spend money for something trivial. I only live around the corner from you

Sounds like it's stored a sporadic fault code with the airbag you unplugged, not uncommon at all, clearing codes should do the trick. It's very rare to damage airbag cables just by simply pulling them off.

Should be capable, and if not atleast you will have an idea what you are looking at (based on the code produced)

Big thanks to nomadx38! He verified that nothing is actually wrong and removed the error with his VCDS
