Advised that my water pump is leaking, but no coolant spots on garage floor...

    Hey,

Polo has just gone in for its 6yr service (~88k kms) and the service centre advised me that the water pump is leaking.

With the previous service they said the same, BUT my garage floor is clean i.e. no coolant leaks what so ever, even after a long drive.

I looked, but can't see much.

Do I take it for a second opinion or pony up the ~$700 to get the pump replaced?

Regardless of if you can find the leak or not, surely a simple check is the level of your water - its either changing or its not.

    They do weap on these.

I did diagnose one a few months ago, however the vehicle was under warranty. It went back to the dealership to confirm the leak, and carry out the repairs, but they insisted there was nothing wrong with it. Go figure.

Quite common and not a huge mission to do them. I usually recommend them when they weep as eventually the bearing lets go and they rattle like crazy while dumping more coolant.

I've had the same issue on my one.. It would get low on coolant and i would refill it and it would last at least till the coolant was replaced. There is a overflow / bypass hole on the water pump that I'm guessing while you cant see it leaking they can possibly see the coolant having come from there at some stage.

Have you ever had to top up your coolant?

If you're in need of any 6n1 parts, odds are that I am going to have them (dismantling 2 at the moment)
