    Adaptive Cruise Control triggers brakes?

I just wanted to double check something with my fellow Polo owners. My ACC will bring my car to a halt behind another vehicle and will hold that position for a couple of seconds. It will then instruct me to put my foot on the brake and if I don't it'll let the clutch out and the car will start creeping forward. I'm guessing it does this so it isn't holding the position by slipping the clutch and the Polo doesn't have auto hold like the Golf.

I just wanted to check because the Owners Manual says the ACC will trigger the brake automatically after 2 seconds. Call me pedantic but I wouldn't call a warning sign and sound telling me to put my foot on the brake an "automatic" triggering of the brakes!

It's no big deal of course, I just want to check that my car if functioning properly.

Haven't tested it myself, but I'd be guessing it activates the parkbrakes so that it isn't overheating the ABS pump to keep the car still.

ACC will bring you to a stop but only if it registers the car infront slowing down, I haven't been brave enough to see if it does its thing when going 80km/h approaching people already stopped at a set of lights.

I have the auto(DSG) too. If the car came to a full stop behind another car and you didn&#39;t put your foot on the brake what would it do? Or have you always put your foot on the brake as instructed?</p>

Well I'm glad you asked that. It holds the brakes for a few seconds then it will start moving. However an alarm should sound to remind you to apply the brakes.

Thanks! That's what happens with mine. I was just checking because the Owners Manual tends to give the impression that the car will hold itself in place. It's a tad vague. Adaptive Cruise Control triggers brakes?
