    Actual ride drop from H&R Springs?

    Im in a bit of a predicament atm, changed insurance over the other day because wasnt happy with Allianz and they wont cover ANY mods, and i have 35/55mm H&R springs about to go in along with some 17" aristos.
    However even though the new insurance promised they would cover the springs, they came back to me today and said they cant cover anything that lowers the car by more than 30mm.

    So does a 35/55 springs lower it by 45mm? or is it less?

    And could anyone recommend a different option that excludes changing insurance to just car etc

    25/40mm Springs?? or is that too low as well?

    The height drop is in the title 35mm front drop 55mm rear drop. And it's the same with the rest of the range. I don't think H&r make springs that go any less then a 35mm drop at he rear so your insurance won't like any of them really. But I'm surprised that stated a height. Most insurance that allows mods go on road law. I'm with AAMI and they said as long as it was road worthy its fine. And from memory in Tas we go by 50mm (might be more would have to check) from the lowest point under the car to the ground.

    In Victoria it's 100mm, but a safe height is a coke can, which is what most police here check by.

    By the sounds of it you have a crappy insurance company, RACV here in Victoria cover for any modification so long as it is "considered" road worthy and didn't directly cause an accident requiring a claim.

    This means that most people with engine tunes could have their claims voided but if you are hit in the car park by someone else they will look at it and see that it played no part in the accident. It's why I like the RACV.

    I have a mate with Allianz and they didn't fully cover him (he still had to pay his 2000$ excess, even though he was proven innocent) when he was hit at a round about because he had lowed springs and the car was not considered "roadworthy".

    Hmmm well i guess both springs are too low in that instant?
    can anyone suggest anything?

    Guess you could get adjustable coil-overs but I don't know what that would really achieve when you really want to lower it.

    yeah the KW at highest setting are 20mm from 40mm rear which would be 30mm all around but thats alot of money


    Or are there spacers or something i can put above or below the springs that will counteract the lowering to get my height?

    Not sure they make them for the polo if any normal car (more of a 4wd thing) and defeets the purpose of lowering. You will just end up with a car that looks no lower but stiffer.

    Actual ride drop from H&R Springs?

    NSW have different laws in regards to the modifications of ride height in a vehicle in relation to their draconian anti-hoon legislation. The loop hole that is available to you though is that the GTI is 15mm lower so technically the rule is 30mm below the lowest factory setting on that vehicle model. Still not going to suit you though because the drop will be too far BUT depending on the tyre profile you will be running on the 17" Aristos, if you do the wheels first an measure a ride height increase, then add that to 15mm and then subtract that from the 55mm you might be ok.

    Another BUT! A spring in a car will very rarely drop or raise a vehicle exactly by the amount stated because manufacturing of springs is centered more on the spring rate, not height. To give you an idea, an Amarok has a spring-based ride height tolerance of +/-35mm.

    Well if i take into account that loop hole, wouldnt that make me safe.. just, as the total drop on the 35/55 should be 45mm?
    Otherwise i could get 25/40 correct? and that should be ok considering my insurance company allow this "loophole"
