Thanks, I've got the 9w7 bluetooth working in my R36 wagon and no fault code on the mike. I can see my phone book and dial numbers etc. but the phone button on the steering wheel is not working. When I connected the mike, I connected it inline to the 9w7, not to the head unit as I didn't need the voice recognition function. Could this be the problem. Also, when it connected to my phone, it didn't ask for a pin code.

You need to code the steering wheel which Ryan_R and I touched on the previous page. I'd think the R36 would be like the Golf so check Ryan's post

Thanks, this thing is driving me crazy!!! Coded the steering wheel to 2 but the phone button still doesn't work.(Mute button still works) Set the pin code to 1234 and tried to pair my wife's phone but no luck. Phone keeps coming up with that message about making sure Pin Code ****** is shown on VW PHONE. and Make sure VW PHONE is in Range and ready to Pair. When I checked the PIN Code setting on the VCDS, it was set to 00 00. Setting it to 12 34 made no difference. I don't know how my phone eventually paired because it did not ask me to enter a pin code. I'm sure it must be a coding issue but I am damned if I can find it. The software version in the RNS510 is 900 but I am reluctant to update it be cause I will lose the maps and I don't have the DVD. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

900 is very very old, could be part of the issue

Maps and firmware updates are available via the sticky thread in the Audio section of this forum.

If it makes you feel any better my phone paired to the 9W7 (after upgrading from 9W3) without prompting for a PIN either.

I have gone from no bluetooth to a 9w7. Can't believe that a R36 would come without bluetooth and I guess the previous owner didn't need one. The head unit is a 1T0 035 680 B so I am guessing FW3810 is the one for me but I will try to download the Maps first. Still can't understand why I can't pair my wifes phone. It's a iphone 4s the same as mine. Think I really need to talk to a VCDS expert. I have the latest Ross-Tech version but am still learning.

Was in VCDS the other day and found the setting for the Golf to stop faults being logged:

Select None if you don't have the 3 phone buttons in the roof module.
