    77tsi thoughts

    Hey all,

My partner is in the small car market and is going test driving on Saturday,

    her options;
    -Fiesta
    -Swift
    -Mazda2
    -Polo 77TSI

I own a 6R GTI and having read about the armada of things that could go wrong with the beast, I'm concerned that I should steer her clear of Polo's.

However, there is a tidy Red 77TSI for 19k at a local dealer with a manual box that beckons a test drive.

    Thoughts?

The Speaker of the House drives a shiny red 77TSI manual and has had no issues whatsoever with it.. and loves it to pieces.

Can understand why you'd potentially want to steer clear, but you'd already know how much better the Polo will be inside and out compared to those other options.

Couldn't be happier with my 77TSI. Had it for over a year now and almost 12,000kms and not a single issue at all! One or two little creaks in the dash, but nothing a quick fix couldn't solve. Go for it!

My car-nut mate bought a 77tsi DSG for his wife. We fitted koni dampers to & made the steering slightly heavier (software change). It's a brilliant car. Almost as much fun as the Lotii he owned. She had a 5yr old Fiesta before (also a great car) but he didn't like the way the new ones had lost all the rearward visibility.

My rule of thumb with wife-cars is not to worry too much about handling & power, etc. As long as they like to drive it.

Good advice and pretty much what I was thinking.

All the cars are around the same power output anyway, polo has more torque. But she'll be jumping in all of them and doing laps on Saturday

At the end of the day she has to decide whats going to be best for her, I'm just getting all the info for her.

TBH if I was looking for a runabout and not the performance of the GTI I'd be checking out the Yaris first. Toyota reliability and $130 capped price servicing. Although the Swift Sport is tempting for something Japanese, peppy and a fair bit cheaper than a GTI.

I love my shiny red polo as well. Had her for 2 years now and haven't had any issues.

I love my little 77TSI. It's just perfect. Not one single complaint about it - period. Have never loved any of my cars before but I love this one - in a healthy sort of way. I love it so much I want to die of old age with it. As I said, my love for it is healthy.
