Yea I'm pretty happy with it's performance too surprisingly but was curious what people who had it chipped thought too?

I've dragged and hillclimbed mine. I haven't noticed anything that suggests first gear boost is limited. Although only 23kW its a 30% increase. I'm considering it as my car comes off lease next month.

For reference mine has a piggy back chip out of Germany. Standard i'm 77kw... this is meant to give 89KW and I really cant notice any difference. Previous owner paid 400 for a slight acceleration increase... Hope others are better than what I had fitted.

I never flog my car at all in every day driving (I average a tested 5.1L/100km 60/40 highway/city). First gear has a very obvious torque deficit in the exact range that second to sixth receive boost. It's confirmed to be the case with all 77TSI engines.

In combination with that, I find that the throttle calibration in first gear 'drops off' right about where boost comes on in the other gears (a little under 2000rpm). I find when taking off at a normal pace, for any given throttle position, the actual acceleration drops off sharply at 2000rpm. I have learned to double my throttle right on that point to minimise the effect. Funnily enough, because boost comes on quite sharply, I have to do the opposite in second through sixth (cut half throttle when boost comes on). All I can assume is that the throttle calibration is designed to drop off when boost hits to disguise the power delivery.

You won't notice any of these things if you thrash the car, a heavy foot disguises the lack of boost in first- and the onset of boost in all other gears.

Look into RD Technik, I know that they have taken a brand spankers 6C polo Trendline with all of it's happy 66kw and tuned it safely to over 100kw here in Melbourne, plastic hubcaps and all!

The exact same thing seems to occur with the 1.6TDI too, I notice a definite drop in torque just as it hits 2,000rpm in first gear, but second through fifth seems to have full torque delivery. As you say, if you floor it through first gear it'll give you the torque, but under light throttle it'll back off sharply just as it hits 2k. I guess it's either to make it feel smoother to most drivers, or what I believe it's for is to make you want to change into second for fuel savings... I don't know, I'm guessing here. But it's definitely an obvious torque hole that's been programmed in for first gear.

Why not? Its the only way you can drive flat out without losing your car and licence and a lot safer. People can and do race anything and everything. Not anywhere near as quick as my first race car but still fun to do.

Huntley Hillclimb, WSID, Wakefield Park, Willowbank, Raleigh. Kombi also did Amaroo, Eastern Creek and Nowra.

I looked everywhere for the flat spot today. I tool off at all levels of throttle and I still couldnt feel any 2000rpm dip.
