Hi everyone,

Has anyone driven (or have) a 77tsi comfortline manual 2013? I would just like to receive some feedback on how it performs:

*In and around the city
*On long drives esp. the freeways
*around hilly areas

Interested in purchasing this model in the next few weeks.

Ive got a 2011 77TSI manual
* Nice around the city once its up out of 1st gear, from a standing start I find the car a bit slow, especially for the reviews/hype it gets. Before I got the first software update I had even noticed some people in the rear view mirror getting a bit annoyed, this has improved a bit with the newer software, 2nd/3rd/4th feel very torquey for a small car.

*Long drives pretty good, before I got roof racks pulled under 5l/100 sometimes, find it pretty comfortable

*Around hills once again a bit slow from a standing start but once you get into at least 2nd not bad, once again feels very torquey for a small car and I don't feel like its labouring anywhere near as much as a naturally aspirated small car would be to get up very steep hills.

Looking at possibly selling mine but in that segment I just don't like anything else I'm probably going to have to spend more money. I feel that if it had just a bit more power it would almost be perfect for the money spent and i'd be happy to keep it for a lot longer, I reckon you will feel the same after having had the car for a while. I suggest you test drive one in city traffic and a hilly area. Had a few rattles/stalling issues which seem to have settled right down. I'm almost tempted to get the GTI but don't think I can do it knowing how many issues people are having.

There is a tune hat brings it up to 100kw that's a 30% increase so should make a huge difference. Most off the guys on here that have the tune rave about it.

Have one which wife uses for shopping basket It goes Ok for what it is and we havent had any trouble with it but has only done 12,000k. We find it quite zippy for our use and havent held anyone up that we know of It always gets away with the traffic ok

Have done a 500k trip in it quite comfortably.

Just dont let it creep when sitting at hte lights in town or it will burn clutch plates.

Remember its not an auto Its a manual box with electically operated clutches and you should treat it as you would drive a manual.

No holding it on a hill by slipping clutch etc When stopped at lights put brake on hold position till lights go green

Got 5.1L per 100k on the trip at speed limit +

Can be driven as a manual if thats what grabs you.

Would get another one if we were considering a new car again

Have had a manual one since 2011, found it a little slow for the first few months, and found a few rattles that everyone has, otherwise love it, plenty of power once in 2nd, excellent Economy and refinement.

I have an MY13 manual. I love it. Best car I have ever owned or driven apart from a Golf. As others have mentioned, first gear seems to have been deliberately torque-reduced by software or whatever, but second gear onwards is excellent. It took me at least a month to become fully accustomed to the differences between 1st and 2nd gear, but after that I was fine. I came from a 2006 Mazda 2 and the performance difference between the Polo and Mazda is night and day. On hills the performance is - at least for me - pretty much effortless. Any hill is easily climbed on light throttle and on the open road I have never come across any hill it cannot get up in at worst 5th and even 6th can easily climb the steepest hills at freeway speeds. Freeway cruising is effortless and very quiet for a small car - the engine is only doing about 2200 RPM in 6th at 110 kmh. I used to drive Falcons and Commodores for work purposes in the mid to late 90s and the performance of the Polo seems similar to those cars in my opinion, provided you keep the turbo on the boil (very easy to do so long as you are not too slow between gear changes). Speaking of gear changes, gear change action is wonderful and clutch feel is about the best I have come across in any car.

I get around 5.7 litres per 100 in normal suburban driving and around 4.6 on the freeway. The oil level on the dipstick is exactly the same today as it was the day I took delivery - I have not added any oil to it nor has anyone else.

I haven't had any problems with mine apart from some hard starting which turned out to be the fuel the dealer had put in it prior to delivery (stale fuel I suspect). After changing to a high-volume Caltex servo on a main road and using Vortex 98 I have had no engine issues at all. No squeaks or rattles have developed thus far apart from a very minor rubbing noise from the driver's door which was resolved by applying that German gummi stuff to the door rubber.

I am 9 months into ownership and I want to keep the car for as long as I can get parts for it - it is that good. Absolutely brilliant little thing it is.

I've got a MY12.5 77TSI (Although it is DSG) and I haven't had a single issue with the car at all! It's got plenty of power for when you need it whilst still maintaining its fuel efficiency. I do regular trips to Canberra on the Hume Hwy @ 110 kph and the car feels so solid on the road at speed. I drove a few small cars when I was looking for a new car and none of them felt stable at high speed like the Polo did.

Such an excellent car! I can't fault it at all! I'd recommend the Polo to anyone!

Hah I drove a colleagues 2011 77TSI today and after driving the GTI, if felt like I could pedal the thing myself faster! But that's coming from a long way up! It;s been a long time since I had a car that didn't have plenty of power, not sure i could ever go back.

The racing driver John Bowe is used to driving cars at ten-tenths which have power to weight ratios 4 times better than your Polo GTI. When John Bowe test drove the 77TSI, he was actually very impressed with the way it went, pointing out that the performance was sufficiently impressive as to dispell the notion that small engines were a handicap to good performance.

No one is trying to argue that there is a significant performance difference between the 77TSI and the GTI, but to suggest the 77TSI has the sort of performance you allude to is quite frankly ridiculous in the extreme.
