Love my 1.4 DSG 7 Skoda. Drive it hard and gentle (use the turbo!) and it should be all ok.

Hey guys
Thinking of picking up a polo 1.2 tsi with the 7spd dsg. Have VW sorted their stuff out or are the dsg issues still about? I know no car is perfect and you usually hear more about people with problems then those without. Can't get manual (don't know how to drive stick ), plus it would be used by others in the family so dsg is the only way to go.
Will be checking the car out this week sometime and taking it for a spin. Is there still an ecu tune available for the my13 cars?
Any other info will be greatly appreciated.

No problems here with the DSGs in our Golf6 118TSI, TDI Tiguan and RS Octavia.

I think he's referring to the problematic dry DSG 7 (which is in the Golf 6 118tsi too). AFAIK, the MY14 Polos aren't involved with the recent DSG7 recall (the oil change one), so if you really wanna feel safe I'd go that route

I love my MY12.5 77TSI with DSG; however, it did need the clutches replaced at 13,000 kilometers. There were rumors that some 2012-built DSG's had a 'faulty' clutch material so that could have been the issue. Apart from that, the car has been flawless. One thing to note is that you need to drive a DSG a little differently to a traditional automatic in order to prolong the life of the clutches so you'll need to make sure that whoever else drives the car knows this, too. Just small things like avoid 'creeping' in traffic and not going too light on the accelerator.

Can't put on 215/45r17's. They are just too big (an extra 22mm taller) which will throw the speed out by 4% which is illegal (1-2% is allowed)
Getting 40 profile tyres are harder to get than normal tyres, but out of them you can get Bridgestone re002 (which are apparently really good for the price) or some top s001. Also you can get some Pirelli PZeros and Continental's which are really good. Of you don't care for performance and want to save some coin Nexen tyres are available.
Another option is to get some 205/40r17 but you loose some tread - but more choice.
Also you need to give the 7sp DSG more "care". The VW's your other family members have are both 6sp wet clutch which are way more durable and smoother - they also don't eat their own clutches for breakfast.
The car comes standard with 7% speedo error so putting slightly bigger tyres on it will make the speedo more accurate would it not?
Fork out the extra for the sport pack + comfort packs. Its good value for money. The first and last time you will get that from VW. I dont think I could live without climate control and auto dimming mirror now I have the taste for them, and the car handles so flat and nice with the springs and low profile tyres, makes my lancer feel like an old bus. And hassle like crazy to get the floor mats either thrown in or at cost price. The front ones alone are something like $160 from vague memory.
Second that. The sports pack is excellent value for what you get!
Also the speedo is out about 7% but this is to make up for the variances between the stock wheel options ranging from 14" to 17" which take up about 1-4%.
I guess it would still be legal but also going to a bigger size tyre will affect your gear ratios (only slightly though) also 45 profile will roll more on the side wall which means slightly worse handling.
i was using 215/45r17s for a while. the speedo appeared to be more accurate. not sure though. but the gear ratios were definitely longer
