Called a few places in Sydney like Botany mufflers, fast fit Leichardt, hitech and they are all quoting $120-$150. There was someone on here who got it done for $80 at castle hill exhaust. Was that a special price or something?

It was about 6 months ago. I don't have a contact name but he was the main guy at CHE. Walked in one day and booked it for the next day.

I should also note that the mod did not effect getting my replacement engine under warranty however they would not test the black soot problem without the res back on... Which still seems to occur even on the new engine.

Black soot is a common attribute of the direct injection engine - under low load lean burn operation. It's problem is made worse if you have long cruising runs where the engine doesn't get revved out. My 77tsi looked like a diesel when I gave it the beans after a 5 hour cruise on the Hume.

Exactly. Gave mine the berries tonight and the puffs at the start of the run was disturbing, by the end there were no puffs.
