    60,000km service 66Tdi 7sp

Hi. Could someone enlighten me as to what would be done for the 60,000km service? Car is only a year and a bit old so brake fluid shouldn't be done (3yr) although it is damp up hear and this year has been wetter than usual. In the book it just looks like an oil change. I did read somewhere that they do a dsg service. In the book it does talk a bout the 6sp dsg but not the 7sp. I'd rather go to my independent service guy, but if the gbox was looked at, well....

    60,000km service 66Tdi 7sp

    Hi njg02,

My sister has a 66TDI manual as in my signature. Here is what it says in the service book regarding the 60,000 km service:

Engine oil changed, oil filter renewed.
    Fuel filter replaced.
Exhaust system checked for leaks, secure fitting and damage.
Visual check of engine and the components in the engine compartment for leaks or damage.
Condition and tension of V-belt checked.
Condition and tension of ribbed V-belt checked (engines without automatic tensioner).
Coolant level and anti-freeze protection checked.
Fault memory interrogated for all self-diagnosis systems.
Brake pad and disc rotor thickness, front and rear checked.
    Brake system visually checked.
    Brake fluid level checked.
    Headlight settings checked.
    Dust and pollen filter replaced.
Oil level in manual gearbox and final drive checked.
    Underbody sealant checked.
Gearbox, final drive, C.V. joint boots visually checked.
Steering knuckle ball joint sealing boots checked.
Track rod ends checked for play, looseness and sealing boots checked.
    Battery checked.
    Tyres checked.
    Full written report on work.
    Electronic convenience systems checked.
Door check straps and securing pins lubricated.
    Front and rear lighting checked.
Interior lighting, cigarette lighter, horn and warning lamps checked.
    Driver and passenger airbags checked.
Windscreen wiper and washer system checked.
    Function of sliding roof checked.
    Service indicator reset.
    Service sticker put on windscreen.
    Road test.

In addition to the above, at 60,000 kms this work must be performed:

Air filter element renewed and housing cleaned on vehicles which do more than 60,000 kms in 4 years.
Spark plugs renewed (obviously wont apply to us diesel people)
    Fuel filter renewed.
    Automatic transmission fluid level checked.
Oil level in automatic gearbox final drive checked.

also, the book says that the brake fluid should be changed every two years.

    Alex.

    Yes, it's true.
The 7-speed DSG does not need to be serviced (if you can fathom that).

Because its a sealed, pre-run unit before being fitted to the car. Because the only thing running oil is the gears, there is nothing to cause the gear oil to deteriorate.

There are two fluids used for the 7-speed 0AM gearbox:

You have 1.0 l of hydraulic fluid for the mechatronics unit, which can be drained but not refilled - this is seriously best left alone.

Then you have 1.7 l of gear oil for the gearbox itself, which can be drained and refilled (it's not sealed in the literal sense). VW says this oil is filled for life.

You can draw parallels with 'filled for life' fluids for manual gearboxes.

Yeah exactly, though the mech fluid is easier to drain.

So, the 60,000km service should be motor oil and filter only. Pus maybe the polen filter. I may as well do it myself.

That's probably the one thing you wouldn't want to drain.

No, it's engine oil and all filters (oil, air, fuel, pollen).

Pollen filter should be replaced every 30 000 km at the most (earlier if it's dirty).
If the air filter was replaced at the 45 000 km service, then you don't need to replace it now.
