Australian's don't like 3 door hatches. Australian's appear to be all about "more is better". Due to this the vast majority of hatchbacks sold in Australia, even when there is a 3 door model available, or 5 door. So unless you can change attitude of Australians and get them to buy significantly more 3 door GTI's and R's than they already do, then I think you're going to be out of luck.

Oh and in the broucher in page 10 they are talking about TDI and TSI on that page they have a 2 door next to it how BS!!! false advertising!!

I agree it's a shame, but presumably it all comes down to marketing (i.e price sensitivity) and stock control (i.e. not having too many configurations to manage). I like the idea of a 3 door 1.2TSI with sport pack etc, as it would be a cheaper and presumably a little lighter than the 5 door, and probably offers better visibility too. Not a GTI of course, but less complex, more affordable (especially as it can be had with a manual transmission), and probably still plenty of fun. It would be a nice package, so I hope VWA considers it before too long.
That is how I feel to!! I think they need to consider this what are the prices for the packs. Since they have a pack thing now it should be eaiser to manage then with the golf where they can add what ever option they feel like... Oh do they have xennon lights as an option.
We'd have gone the same but the missus is happy with a 5 door so not a big issue. Unless you voice your wants to VWA and your dealer, they're not going to listen. It worked for the Golf R!
No and I'll be surprised if anyone orders one with the fake leather/heated seats option!
Firstly Sydney is post code 2000, not 5000. And next, seriously, quit it. If you're going to start complaining about why "on-road car prices" are different in each state then I will just close this thread. On-road car prices have NOTHING TO DO with Volkswagen or any other manufacturer. On road car prices include: Dealer Delivery (set by dealers, although a recommendation is given by Volkswagen Group Australia), Registration (set by your state government), CTP (set by the insurance companies and influenced by other state and federal authorities), and Stamp Duty (set by state governments).
Since this forum does not represent any of those authorities, please find another forum to discuss it.
This is not false advertising, and there are statements which say that different markets have different options. If you seriously expected all the manufacturers to produce and photograph different brochures specifically for each country, then you would have to be willing to expect the car prices to increase to account for this extra work. Or you could be intelligent enough to realise that brochures are used world wide, and just like every other car manufacturer, VW does the same.
Look I agree to, but the simple fact is that the majority of Australia doesn't. Look at other hatchbacks around this price. Mazda 2 was initially available in a 3 door as well, now it isn't. The Yaris is in a 3 door, but the majority of 5 door sales (even though it is more cost sensitive to the Polo). And try asking how many VW dealers how many Golf GTI's they sell in 3 door. From the dealers I've spoken to, it's well and truly on the wrong side of 10%.
And no. Xenon's are not an option on the base models, but will be later on the Polo GTI. (At least based on what we've seen from overseas).
Well I almost cried when I read Friday night that the only 3dr would be the lousy 1.4. I was seriously going to buy a TSI in a few weeks.
If VW was serious about marketing this car to 20 something year old males and persuading them to buy a new car instead of second hand sports car the 3dr is the only way.
A) it looks 10 times better
B) its $1000 cheaper
C) its lighter
D) you can look right and not have a massive blind spot
E) the doors are large enough to get in comfortably for drivers over 5'6"
F) its the same interior space as the 5 door, just a little bit harder for the passenger I WILL NEVER CARRY to get it the back
I told the dealer exactly these reasons and I hope they take the feedback seriously, otherwise they will continue to sell a measly 1:10 to the Toyota Yaris. If you ask me its an opportunity to make massive gains in brand image wasted (but I still hope its just a delay of a few months, and redemption is just around the corner). In the mean time ill just have to continue pumping $$$ into my 180sx and console myself that the 200rwkW's is worth it.
