Personally I like the paddle shifting, no need to move hands from the steering wheel or unbrace the left leg to punch the clutch. No throttle lift shifts which keeps the turbo spooled up, for much faster acceleration if that's what's required or better fuel economy if that's the target. I just don't see what's not to like about DSG.

Maybe it's the leaving it in D that makes it boring?

I dont find DSG's boring by any means but they simply aren't reliable enough plus the low speed ride of a DSG box is just not acceptable to me.

Id buy it if it was a traditional slush box in behind it like what Audi is starting to put behind the high end models now.

I don't find my DSG boring either, I love the fast shifts when hammering it but for me it's still an auto and thus it's the difference between steering and driving.

The reviews I’ve seen report 0.1s difference in acceleration between manual and DSG.

all those computer-controlled immediate shifts deliver an identical performance claim due to a 70Nm deficit
Add back the 70 nm to a DSG GTi and the manual GTi won't see which way it went.

And if the new manual misses LC and the DSG gets it, the difference will be even greater.

I guess that's the thing. The DSG is just better, faster, easier... as long as they make it reliable too :s

Would you be comfortable buying a a DSG equipped car with 100k kms on it?

I’d be afraid it would cost way too much to fix.

As always (whether it's a manual or auto or DSG) it depends on its service record, how it drives and what's left on its warranty. Replacing a manual clutch, synchros and bearings isn't exactly cheap either.
