MY13 Kluger KX-S AWD / MY16 Polo GTI
My experience (it's been 5 years with VW Group DSG's) is that they "learn" the driver's habits which can catch you out if you do something out of the ordinary. So if, for example, my wife has been toading around and I jump in it takes a while for it to learn my more "aggressive" driving preferences. A bit of learning time and/or judicious and simultaneous use of the brake and accelerator avoids the off the line delay. Which I have found is far less noticeable in later models, for example a Mk5 Golf GTi was annoying (don't disagree with your "dangerous" comment), but it was a total non issue in a Mk7 that I drove recently. A tweak of the tuning helps a lot as well.
As pointed out above, we are a long way off topic, perhaps another thread ..................
For completeness I do find many so called motoring journalists very much uninformed
Cheers

And when it comes time to sell the potential buyer pool for a manual is 90% less than for a DSG. So getting the $2500 back might not be so hard.

The presence of a manual box in my previous Skoda is precisely why it was quick to sell (manual wagon with decent performance - not that many options around) and the presence of a 7sp DSG has stopped me looking into multiple VAG variants
2006 VW Golf GTI Silver Mk5 5dr manual no options (the way nature intended) SOLD
2012 Skoda Octavis RS wagon, race blue, red stitch interior, DSG SOLD
2008 Skoda Octavia vRS Wagon (Mk II, pre-FL) 2.0 TFSI 147Kw 6 MT bright yellow SOLD
Other: 2013 Mercedes B250 Sliver Command Pack panoramic roof

What of course is missing in his maths is the power loss through the torque converter necessary in CVT's. Well, not actually power "loss" (High School Physics, Newton's Law), it's really energy transformation, from kinetic energy into heat. Lock up torque converters remove this in constant speed running but in order to accelerate whilst maintaining constant engine rpm (hence power) the torque converter has to be unlocked and hence consuming (transforming) energy.

Hi everyone I'm new to forum, I'm in market for polo gti,
I've test driven one today, its manual no extra options in red
it goes hard, very punchy engine and you can feel lots of torque,
anyway I recon they would sale it to me for $29000 with extra 2 year
warranty (warranty is $1800). How does VW warranty work with APR tuning??
Very interesting thread with so many different points of view, i'm currently negotiating a deal on a new Polo GTI Manual in Deep Black Pearl Effect, 2016 build and compliance, also with both Luxury and Driver Assist packs, list price is $37,359 and have got them down to $34,359. Have spoken to a few dealers now and this seems to be the going rate for an off the boat GTI as apposed to a 2015 Built MY16 in stock which is a few grand cheaper (If you can find one)
I drove both Manual and DSG and i wanted to get the DSG as i have a MK6 Golf R with DSG, Unfortunately with the Polo having the dry clutch 7 speed unit it was quite disappointing, the shifts were a bit clunky in all modes while its still quite good you really notice those 70nm less torque and it make the manual a much better drive imo. The Polo GTI will be for the wife and she preferred the drive in the manual too. Still the best bang for your buck car in that market segment, with all the options it leaves anything else in its price range for dead, i'll keep you posted

Mazda 3 reviews are a prime example, when we bought the 118TSI for my wife we also looked at Mazda 3s' and the very first thing I noticed was how damn noisy they were. It was so bad that when I got home I looked up every review that I could find, local and international, and not one of them mentioned the road/tyre noise. Just recently I've noticed that it's starting to be commented on, mostly in reference to the new model which is supposed to be quieter. So the old model wasn't noisy until the new model's press release pointed it out. I can still remember when reviews included noise metre readings, absolute data used to be important, but you are so right, much easier to copy/paste.
Cheers
