Enjoy collecting your new car tomm! Nice work.......

For less that $100, changing the oil around 1500kms is fine and won't do any harm. They're have been many comments here on VWW re cars being manufactured using 'break in oil' but that has not been proven, even by VW Technicians here on the Forums.

    And re break in, get those bores/pistons hot and under load. That is, some full throttle yet low-ish revs. The below link has been around for years. Used the method on my Mk6 Golf GTI and intend on using the same method when my Polo GTI arrives;

Have fun and, pics pls. Can't wait for my baby, especially as I've already sold my other car privately!

Mate there are 2 schools of thought - one is leave it in, the other is change early.

If you talk to VW Customer Service they will say leave it in. Some VW dealers have even said that if you change it early you will void warranty (which is rubbish).

I have an EA888 1.8tsi with 155,000km. Up until 60,000km I only changed the oil every 15,000km. I didn't do an early oil change. After 60,000km I started doing it every 7500km because I had 20L of oil sitting in my garage that I wanted to use and I can DIY.

My engine uses 200ml every 7500km. It makes good power & gets excellant fuel economy.

    My run-in method:
    Disregard fuel usage / economy
    Ignore 5th & 6th gear for the first 2000 - 3000km. They don't exist.
    Don't use Cruise Control.
Don't stay on the same revs - if you are trundling along the highway at 110kph then coast down to 100 then accelerate back up to 115, etc.

Check the oil every 500km until you get an idea how much it uses.

Drive gently (light throttle inputs, don't lug the engine and 2500rpm max) until the water temp is at the normal operating temp.
Once the water temp is OK you can use a bit more throttle (up to 3/4) and continually try and use a few more revs - you will feel when the engine is getting tight.
In the first 500km you should be aiming for a few squirts to 4000-4500rpm.
Between 500-1000km you should be doing a few squirts up near redline.

Don't lug the engine - let it spin.

The idea is to get some pressure behind the rings and force them onto the bore.

    Hi everyone

i got my new 2015 Polo GTI about 3 weeks ago. It's white, manual, no options.

just a couple of questions i have:
    1. Is there a way to level to volume of the radio across different stations? it seems some radio stations are louder than others depending on the strength of the reception. It's kinda annoying, and my mazda 2 was even smart enough to have all the radio stations at the same volume. Surely there's a way to fix this?
    2. When i turn the car off after a drive of more than about 10 mins, it makes a humming noise, which i believe is the turbo cooling down. All good. BUT it also makes a beeping sound from under the bonnet for a few minutes after turning the car off - is this also normal? You can only hear it in the garage, not when out and about and there's background noise.

    Thanks in advance

    Hey There

    1. There won't be a way to get an equal level of volume on the radio unless your car has an equalizer that does this. Reason being that different radio stations have a different level of modulation which depends on where the tower is and the strength of signal.

For example.. Being in Sydney.. You will notice that 96.1 (The Edge) is a heck of alot loud and is bassier than 104.1 (2Day FM). The 96.1 tower is in Wentworth falls and falls under local radio and is a geographical phenomenon that the signal carries down to Sydney, therefore it is sort of legal to have it over modulated slightly to produce a better sound at the recipient. 2Day FM follow the ACMA laws to the point in regards to levels across the FM wave band.

    2. My Polo does that too, it's the water pump, they have a special vacuum design water pump. The turbo believe it or not is actually silent when the engine turning off. It should make a different click sound aswell.

I find this really really annoying, if cheaper cars can do this, why does VW not have an equalizer. I'm finding a significant difference in volume, so if i'm on a quiet station and move to a louder one, i would have had the volume up really high because it's quiet and it'll blast my ears off when i change. It's one of those things that just drives me nuts and it's making me angry at the car in general.

On this note, what are everyones thoughts on the difference between the Polo GTI and the Golf Highline? I initially went to get a Golf Highline and ended up getting the Polo GTI, and now i'm questioning my decision and my Polo GTI doesn't have all the "bells and whistles" of the Golf that i could have got for almost the same money. The Polo is prettier and has a more powerful engine, but that's the only things i can think of that are advantages over the Golf. I guess i have regrets that i made the wrong decision, and i'm not sure what to do.

2 different cars. I'm not even sure how you could cross-shop them.

I'd take the Golf because I like bigger cars but i'd find the money for the GTI. (Actually, I'd buy the vRS Octavia but I'm a Skoda fanboi)

    thanks mate

my dash rattles a bit on the back roads when cruising i can hear it

tyres are garbage, with no TC it spins up way through 3rd and get greasy with some heat in them (went to the black spur on the weekend)

putting the car into S and then Manual mode makes a huge difference, to start out with i was going from D sideways to manual mode thinking thats likea sport mode, lol. turns out its S mode first then manual. you will notice your idle rpm will be 1K in sport and sport manual rather than 700rpm in D and normal manual mode

i turn off the stop start function every time i get in

TC is pretty intrusive but very safe (leave it on for my wife) 1st and 2nd gear get robbed of a lot of power
the car amazingly powers of corners with the wheels spinning and keeps tracking straight when booting it off the line

i find a lot of the time in D it shifts from 4 to 3 in traffic quite poorly, i think its changing when im letting off the brake though so that might be me

all the controls in the cabin are amazing, the seats are super comfy

the ride is harsh, with no damping control the ride is extremely firm. i have adjustable coilovers on my legnum and its a beautiful ride in comparison. i think the short and narrow wheel base doesnt help it with the damping it has. having said that it tracks the road very nicely and doesnt track ruts like my legnum does

ive taken a few mates for a spin and they love it. its such a laugh of the car, i complain about the tyres, but shredding them up in 3rd gear is just hilarious

i get about 600km out of a tank too
