Really. This surprises me. Interesting info. Thanks.

Id always thought all things being equal for cars in same 'risk' profile the higher value car would cost more to insure. Ie mk7 golf gti v mk 5 golf gti?

Anyone know why it doesn't work that way if so?

If more younger people are buying the Polo, then in general there will probably be more accidents. A lot of the people I see driving Golf GTI's look like middle-aged public servants (with all due respect to anyone in that category), so presumably they are driven more soberly in general.

As an aside, when I first insured the Fabia the insurance company quoted me a figure so low (comparable to a Ford Focus of lesser value) that I checked they hadn't confused it with the non-RS version. They confirmed that it was the right figure, but that they often start newer model or unknown cars at the bottom until they get some statistics.
Now gone.... 2012 Skoda Fabia RS

Wow yeah that does suck. Allianz, AAMI and Progressive have always worked out cheapest for me (beware with Progressive they give you an awesome deal on the first year to suck you in, and then on renewal each subsequent year your insured value drops by $10k - you'd never notice until you needed it

I was told (could be BS) that:
*the older the car got the harder it was to get parts
*new car buyers treat their car better than those that buy used and the older the car the more likely you are the 2nd /3rd/4th owner
*the older the car, the less the value & therefore more likely to get written off in an accident. Therefore (pulls figures out of air) 50% of cars that are worth $10k get written off and only 5% of cars worth $35k get written off.

I think the mysteries of insurance are only slightly less than the mysteries of women - I understand neither.

The take-home is "Don't assume what the cost of insurance will be - get a few quotes before committing to purchase a vehicle."

Experienced this just last week when I queried with NRMA why our comp. insurance for a 2005 Falcon was higher than for our 2012 Superb. Difference in agreed value between the cars is about 22K!

hmm, Mine is insured for market value with RACV - 770 Full comp. Rating 1 - in Boronia with Market value cos the car is new. They will replace the car in the first 2 years of its life - stated in the info pack.
It was definitely cheaper than my accord euro.

This only came up in the last few weeks AFAIK. Having a look at the demo Polo GTI VW this is the exact OEM camera that comes with the DA pack. It is fitted just under the lip above the number plate ... you can hardly see it when installed unless you squat down.

Maybe ask JKU or The Retrofitters? (forum sponsors on here)

Ah-Ha! found the one I wanted!

This one is the one under the badge...
My friend has a mk6 one, I will try and see if they plug into the back first.. otherwise.. I'll buy this kit.

I contacted carsystems about this and they replied that only the higher versions of the radio can accept the OEM camera input. And the camera is now a standard 'composite' 2-wire camera, no longer the fantastic high-res RGB camera from the RNS510/mk6 days
