So dropped my car off yesterday to Denlo VW in Parramatta and told them about the issue that I had wit the gearbox.
*Smell like metal burning when in sports mode
*crumch/thump noise in manual from 2nd-3rd gears

Get a call back yesterday saying "Couldn't find anything wrong", in which case I told them the mechanics must be incompetent and useless.

So my justice for good over evil continues today when I am expected to receive a call back from them later on today lol.

Whatever cooperation you may have had is now ended. I have dealt with people like that when what they expect does not happen for whatever reason when the car is not diagnosed to expectation because the customer always knows best and is never wrong and I can assure you that you have just caused yourself more problems.

I'm trying to not post on this issue for the time being but you are spot on with that quote.

I assure you I have not, I didn't actually tell the mechanic that just the staff that called me on Monday and asked me, "So when are you picking up your car?" I had no communication throughout the day as i was promised, just a phone call at the end of the day to say we have found nothing. That first comment disturbed me as it basically told me that we just want your money. When i went back there yesterday that same person had apologized to me for the way that he had he did not have the facts in hand when i let rip into him at 5:30 on Monday afternoon.

Make sure that you go for a drive with the tech, this is what i did yesterday and it happened first go, I just smiled and looked at him when it happened. He explained to me that they do test drive the cars but not under load like a normal person would, which made sense when he explained it and I thought about it. If people saw a mechanic for any car brand trying to replicate an issue at WOT without actually knowing this was the case it would get out to the media and then it would be a bigger issue.

Like i said above just take it for a drive with the tech and show him the issue, it was relatively painless doing this. The car is now booked in 2 weeks to get fixed. The tech reckons that it was not a mechatronics issue but potentially something else, he did go into detail with it which was actually quite refreshing to hear.

And that is how to do it. The service advisor is the meat in the sandwich and it is about time more people realised that. The car gets handed off to a tech who may or may not be able to replicate the problem and the then service advisor reports what is written on the RO by the tech. When a customer gets abusive the service advisor is not inclined to help any further and the customer than wonders why. If it requires thrashing the car or giving it a real hard time to replicate the problem then you can't really blame a tech for not wanting to do that or even in some cases risk his license. The surrounding streets of any dealer also attract a lot of police attention and techs have to be very careful when testing cars. We recently had a car that displayed a problem on dirt roads and the customer while understanding the difficulty of diagnosing that still wants it fixed and the last time it happened was in western QLD. If you pick up a car when a fault was not diagnosed and it happens as soon as you drive it again, take it straight back and get someone to go for a ride with you, don't start yelling and screaming it will get you nowhere, certainly with me it wouldn't. Treat people like you would like to be treated and you will get a result.

I went out with the workshop supervisor & low & behold it made the noise....
"It's the way your driving it!"
"How would you like me to drive it?"
"Change at the same revs as in drive...."
"Then why bother having manual shift at all? Surely your gearbox should work in all driving conditions?"
"Not sure what it is... would you like us to reset it & see how you go?"
"Don't bother... I'll wait till next time & see if it's been flagged as an issue on the VW system!"

I guess we'll (my wife) drive it till it breaks or is sold....

I'll update next week - I'm not holding my breath

    I agree with you 100%.
Not everyone is polite when their car develop the fault and they go to get it fixed.

Very true, my issue started with the fact that the supporting manager said to me that he would keep me updated throughout the day. I then never received anything till 5:30PM by someone else that then asked me "Hi, so when are you picking up your car?" Not this is the status of your car or what we have done to try and replicate the issue.

When I went in the next day the tech then told me the above and it made sense. I also received an apology from the service advisor told me that when he called me he did not have all the information. It is now booked in with VW on the 8th Nov and they will take it for as long as required.

I was having this same issues in my 2015 Polo GTI (MY16) 1st to 2nd (2000 - 3000RPM) it would clunk and jolt when shifting in manual mode, 2nd to 3rd (3000 - 4000RPM) same as above and occasionally 3rd to 4th it would happen. My car went in for its first 12month service (has 9000kms on the clock) on Friday, took the tech for a drive to replicate it and he felt it. They gave me a call later in the day and said they sent the disk to VW HQ and they came back with a software update that the DSG needed. I can confirm that it is now running perfectly. no jolts and clunks and no fear that the box will drop out the ass of the car haha. Hope this helps.
