    your own? Everyones?

you asked the question & 5 people (inc a VW tech) said 15,000km was fine & 1 said it wasn't. You've decided to do short changes, which is your prerogative but I think you'd already made your mind up before you even posted.

Where I work, we call it "shopping for an answer" - you wander around the office asking for an opinion until you find somebody that agrees with you.

Have you looked at the severe service conditions in the owners manual yet?

Quick question: Should I be keeping a bottle of oil in my boot just in case?!

Can anyone recommend the best oil to use? I'd like to do a top up every 5000km just to be safe.

Work out if you have an oil burner first - check the oil level every tank of fuel & see if the tide is going out. Mine never used oil even when running in.

If you do have an oil burner then any 504.00 approved oil is fine (you can even use 502.00 as a top-up). Shell Helix Ultra Extra is probably the easiest 504.00 to find but Penrite has one as well.

You're from down my way. If you see a red Skoda with a tellytubby on the grille it's me. Give me a wave.

Haha will do mate Thanks for the advice! So far I've filled it up maybe 4 or 5 times full. Not seen an oil warning light yet! Fingers crossed...

    I'd recommend Top-up oil.
Whilst everyone should regularly check their oil, you don't want to be stuck somewhere with none and have the oil light come on.

Top up every 5,000km? You probably meant check the oil/top up every 500km.
There is also LM Toptec4200 available in 1L and 5L bottles, is made in Germany should be the ideal oil for the German car.
