    1.2TSI Gauge Setups

    Hey everyone.

I've been looking into gauge setups for my 2010 Polo which I'm buying on Saturday. Naturally, there's a few options for the GTI, but there's not much for the 1.2tsi.

The main gauges that I'd like are Oil Temp, Water Temp, and maybe Boost. The car will be run up and down mountains and hills a lot which is why I plan to invest in such equipment.

For boost, there's already a spacer/plate that you place in between the intake pipe and the map sensor. This allows you to tap a hose and or sender for boost pressure.

Water temp is not as vital for me as it's more or less redundant (oil temp gauge should suffice), but it'd still be nifty to have. There are adapters that will connect two ends of a hose and have fittings for a temp sender.

Oil temp is the hard one. I've looked at filter sandwich plates but there's absolutely nothing for the 1.2tsi. The oil filter seems to have this black extension that'd make it incompatible with most, if not all of the sandwich plates. The sandwich plate would be most ideal as it's closer to the actual temperature in the engine, plus it allows for future expansion such as oil coolers and or a pressure sensor too.

The alternative here is to use a sump plug that allows a sender to be screwed into it as well. Temperatures may be reported cooler than they are in the engine bay, plus it seems more fiddly and risky being where the sump plug.

Of course, the most attractive alternative to all of these setups is to use an OBD2 adapter. It worked well in my mk7 golf, but it was missing a few sensors.

What is everyone's thoughts? Has anyone here bothered with the 1.2tsi?

Lastly, would anyone be interested in a sandwich plate if I design and make one?

    OBD2 would be easiest mate.
You wont get oil temp, but you should get boost. and Def get water.
I have an UltraGauge, which is nice.
But you could invest in the OBDeleven and have live gauges (I think, email to confirm)
plus you have all the extras for free....
But the OBD11 is via an Android phone I believe

Cheers bud. In that case, I'm still happy having one extra gauge if need be. But I'll figure out if I really need it.

I'll have a look into how much extra OBDeleven offers, since I've already got everything I need for Torque Pro from my old car.

If you have android phone, you might be able to mirrorlink the gauges to the main screen.
You enable video in motion, then it will display while you drive.
I've set it up for my jb4.

The 2010 Polo I'm getting doesn't have the new headunits with mirror link etc. But the display you have under the HVAC system is exactly where I plan to put my tablet/phone if I use torque pro. How big a phone/tablet can you fit in that compartment? I have an 8" tablet that I assume is a no go though.. I have a few spare old phones I can use.

Sorry mate, was meant to measure the gap, but I guess you have the car now.
    Enjoy!
