Yes, it's been done but... - Aux In

    Hey All,

Can anyone clarify the code of the factory head unit, and if there are any inexpensive options for aux input or ipod input?

I've read through the old threads, and keep seeing the Connect2 adapters mentioned, but at $100+ each I'd rather just replace the head unit instead.

Does anyone know of any <$25 adapters that will do the trick? I've seen plenty in this price range on ebay when searching for VW aux cables, but can't determine which (if any) suit the input on the standard Polo head unit.

Current Ride: Evo 8 MR, Fabia MK3

I think anyway you look at it, its going to cost you.

I'm running the Connects2 (think CTVVGX004), from ebay UK was about $80 delivered.

Think there are antennae or Canbus adapters required for full headunit replacement.

I have a XCarLink Ipod adaptor...Best thing ever(took about 15min to install myself), but that was about $100 delivered from the UK...Beats paying $300+ for the VW one.

    X car link

I have one of the X Car links things

It is worth checking carefully what make of stereo you have before ordering online (there are two types) I used the online guide thing on the website and got the wrong one. That said they were pretty good about swapping it for the correct one (although the turnaround from the UK was annoying). You will need to find someone with a VW stereo removal tool.

Mine has the bluetooth option which is cool - especially if you have an Iphone you can play your tunes wirelessly (for as long as your phone will go). The iphone and the bluetooth work well together it even pauses your music to take calls. Problem is that you cannot use the ipod connector that comes with the kit on an iphone without a convertor thingy (but bluetooth works fine) not that it fits into the phone with a protective cover on in any case. I just charge my phone from the cigerette lighter when it needs it (ie all the time it is a hungry thing)

I have an old ipod hooked up more or less full time, even with an ipod hooked up it is smart enough to still pause my tunes and take calls on my iphone.

To be honest if I did it all again I would probably go aftermarket single din and use the extra space to install some gauges (boost, oil temp and pressure). A few of the crew here have done this (VWindahouse - check out the red devil ). The standard VW stereo is nothing to write home about.
