    Yep again. What are these intercoolers like!

    Just curious to see what these PWR intercoolers are like.
    Ther is a picture of a PWR liquid air inter-cooled engine halfway down the page in the light blue / grey car.

    Direct route to inlet manifold must reduce lag. Just curious as to the cooling capacity of this setup. Any idea of cost. PWR are an Australian company.

    Cost can be high and they take a little setting up with space and power etc.

    Also water to air coolers are good at short bursts and sprint racing but can suffer from heat soak if the water reservoir or radiator is too small.

    As water has a higher specific heat it absorbs lots of energy quickly, but then you need to get rid of it. Increasing water capacity increases weight (1Lt = 1kg) as well as packaging size. increasing the radiator size and fan capacity and you get weight and packaging issues again.

    Air to air is much simpler and more efficient over longer periods and wider operating windows. Keeping lag down is possible with a correctly sized core and piping.

    Water to air is mainly for:

    1: Sprint racing like drags, time attack where run times are short;
    or
    2: 4WD and heavy vehicle applications where air flow is limited (due to low speed) but it still requires high capacity cooling where weight and packaging considerations less of an issue.

    For a road car, it's a definite trade off.

    An easier solution if you are after effective chilling is to buy one of these and fit it to an air-to-air intercooler.

    Ta Gavs, me like the look & principle of this, I feel the Pog is suffering when doing several hard laps @ Waky even with the APR intercooler, she just seems to lack the usual Ko4 grunt down the straight going by the bum in seat feel.
    I thought I had finished with doing more mods on the Little Blue Girl & just leave her under cover in the garage, but sh*t here we go again, more research first on this though, any more info would be appreciated especially if there are any down sides.

    More than happy with the THS. It's more curiosity. Always looking for ideas and I like to look outside of the square. I was going through the forums and looking at the combination of parts that people have put together. That is certainly a pretty wild motor. It also looks as though its built for circuit work and not drag work. He also mentions that he prefers Air to water for the response.

    Again he says he is happy with the setup. Not bad value.

    Plus I really like to look for ways to reduce any lag, especially if (more like when) I go for a larger Garrett turbo.

    I'd rather go the water/methanol injection route than IC cooling or air/water IC since you get the more complete combustion as well as the charge cooling benefit.
