Yearning for a Polo GTI (Confused ATM)

    Hi All...New to this forum.

I need some advice as I'm quite keen on purchasing a new Polo GTI this year. Been saving hard and what to get the best bang for bucks. I'm abit confused atm. Have they discontinued the Polol GTI prodiction as of 2006? If i wanted to buy a new model is it still possible? I know this sounds like a lame and dumb questions, as I've read ppl have been ordering Polo GTI on this forum.

Should I buy new or 2nd hand? Does the driveaway deals atm which include all Polo models, relate to the GTI? (i mean are there any exceptions to the GTI model)

I have a rough budget of 25-27K and I'm 22 yrs old, based in Sydney. Fallen in love with this car for some time now, but over the last few months I've changed my mind from it to a Lancer VRX 2008 and now back to this baby again.

Sorry for the lame questions - just abit confused atm. Thanks in advance you'all.

Not lame questions, Lipan ... and welcome to the forum. As far as I know ... VW are still building the current model Polo GTI and you can still order one. Advice would be ... for your budget, you should be able to afford a new one ... but it may take shopping around the dealers and haggling some to get what you want.

    Cheers,

    Dave

    Thanks for the reply Dave.

Another issue is I'm still on my Green Ps and they don't roll over till August, when i will do the test. So in the mean time, my plan is hopefully, keep saving and then look for the best deal then. Just a shame I can't get it this during this months drive away sale. Kind of cringed at this fact! Do VW do these promotions often or one off?

It's usually after new year when they have the deals. You might get another good deal just before end of financial year, otherwise you'll be paying the extra 3 or 4k for onroads. Definitely better than the Lancer by the way.

If you got an 07 model in the sales, you would be paying $26,990 for a stock one in Red or White. Any other colour will cost you $490 extra. Anything you can get off that price is good negotiating.

The 2008 GTI is expected in Australia in late March. I bought my GTI 3 weeks ago now, couldn't wait for the new model (mine's plated 12/07) (black, 17s and leather).

I don't like your chances of getting the GTI on sale in June. Not saying it won't be though.

Too right about that. I'm hoping I'm making the right choice. Just setting this as a goal and working towards it. Wait is killing me though. Not to mention the anticipation of getting one by the time I'm ready, getting a good deal etc. Furthermore, I'm driving an auto atm and I've never driven a manual. So it will take some practice as well...Am i too keen (lol)??? q

How did you all go about it?

    Welcome Lipan to VWwA

Polo GTI will be around until the all new shape is due mid to late 2009 early 2010.

As for promotions, VW do the all the time, good times to buy cars are end of year, financial year, and month as sales staff have quota to achieve.

Also keep an eye out for a used one possibly go for one with warranty still valid and you also have the option to buy warranty from a dealer.

    Good Luck

I bought mine 3 weeks ago in the sale. Went for a few upgrades as I loved the look of them the minute I saw them. Stertched my budget about 5k further than I should have, but very happy I did. In fact, I'm stretching it another almost 2k for the chip

So very worth it in my opinion.

I'd learn manual first, but the GTI is a very easy car to drive, it goes when you tell it to and drives exactly how you want it to.

Like when I raced a Chrysler 300C Limo off the line the other night, he had a rolling start and I kept up with him until late 2nd gear (80-100km/h). Which is OK, since I was backing off at 80 because of the speed limit.

With a few mods it becomes a real giant killer.

Had a new HSV R8 trying to beat me in a merge lane recently. Both from a standing start, needless to say he failed to be in front to be able to merge in front. His words a few 100m later " ... fu!#ing unbelievable; I never expected that ...." I happily told him he wasted $40K, he could have bought a Polo GTI and have had the same performance as his $70K R8.

I did fail to mention the mods though.... better to keep them wondering and treating little hatches with respect ....
