So what you're telling me is, instead of spending $24,990 + on-roads on a Fiesta XR4 and having great handling and decent straight line power for a 25k hatchback, you spend $26,990 + on-roads on a Polo GTI then void your warranty on the engine for $1000 on top to beat the XR4 in a straight line and then void your warranty on suspension components and possibly more in order to make up the handling deficit.
They're pretty close stock vs stock, about dead even, with the XR4 edging the GTI out in very-top end acceleration (0-200km/h etc) and on twisty tracks and the GTI having superior corner exit and excelling on tracks with sweeping corners.
In the end its all down to personal preference, but "I'm going to do this and this and this to my car to beat that standard one," are silly arguments. Especially when the cars are direct competitors.

I have seen many figures on performance of stock XR4s and Polo GTI's. Most are consistent with the following ... quoted from December 2007 issue of Wheels magazine in the super mini comparison test which the Polo won .....
Result ________Polo GTI ____XR4
0-100 __________8.0s _______8.9s
0-140 _________14.9s _______16.0s (so 0.9 now is 1.1s)
400m __________15.9s _______16.4s
80-120 3rd ______5.4s ________5.7s
80-120 4th ______6.6s ________7.2s
80-120 5th ______8.6s ________9.8s (from 0.3s to a massive 1.2s worse)
So in effect the XR4 loses more and more time as the speeds climb not the opposite and the stock GTI increases its gap.
Imagine now if the XR4 gets 10% extra power and the GTI 40%. Does anybody even remotely believe that the gaps will be any closer .... LOL
And with that, MODS, please spare us any more pain ..... and close this degenerated thread.

Be cool mate !!
It's not war other here....
Anyway, it's all about subjectives opinions as you said. More than 2 years ago when i bought my car, i had a run on both and i had even more pleasure with the Polo especially because of the turbo engine i think.
And from my point of view, the "GTI touch" put in a classy performance this little Polo. It's the way i love cars....and i think German cars are the best for that.
Moreover, i'm not interest at all to beat others cars as i said in an other famous & funny thread....
What i wanted to say it's that i take so much pleasure day after day to tune my car since the warranty is OUT that i think the XR4 will not play in the same area once tuned as well. That's MY point of view...
The last word : It's not about money when you're a member of this forum but PASSION !

Dave -- Yes you can close this thread !
Pumpe Duse, i'm not sure what it is with you. Whenever there is a car comparison involving the Polo GTI you really seem to go out of your way to put down the GTI. It was seen in the 'who can i pick a fight with' thread, again in the 'friends debate' thread, and now here!
Is there something you really hate about this car?
I think maybe you are just upset you don't own a GTI and need to make yourself feel better.
EDIT: Wait a minute?! Last time you were really defensive on the XR6T and... well....all the Ford Falcon range. Now you are all-out backing the Ford Fiesta XR4. I've said it before to you and I'll say it again, I really think you're in the wrong brand of car. As harsh as that may sound, it seems that in your mind, nothing is better than a Ford.
