Well he too paid 24,990 but add the dealer charges and plates and it was like 26550 or something like that, I wouldn't be surprised if that extra 1500 was completely unnecessary.

What kind of GTI do you plan on buying for 25k though?
A 05'/06' plate MKV 60k< for that matter, 25k is realistic for manual without leather. I've already seen 3 sell at fixed price for between 25-26k at auctions all with under 60k on the clock and usually well optioned. The value of the V's are crashing and you can already see that online. You can get a nice MKIV for about 9-13k now, and I'd have gotten one had it not been for these curses P-Plater restrictions!

Dude Branko, its as fast as a Polo GTI.
I never said it was a slow car I've been in one and they do pick up speed well after about 80-90k's which I was surprised about. I have a GL, now thats a slow car. I was only commenting on its appearance, that's all.

I don't know how you lost to a Camry Sportivo in a VR6 unless the VR6 was like running on 3 cylinders.
Another case of mind over matter, the driver was clearly having a better day than me and my VR6 frankly needs a tune up, badly. Nothing quite as bad as randomly misfiring at low RPM particularly when your going for a quick launch He didn't beat me, just put up a good fight, exactly how much I won't divulge. Just to speed limit actually ...*cough*...

Nice going to get that for the Astra

My wifes car was a trade-in from a ford dealer mate. Bit different when you're the one buying a car grossly under market value lol

Not every driver will keep up with you on take of simply because of the speed limit and they don't want to lose their licence.
They went in the emergency lane when their lane ended to keep trying to get infront? Then when we turned on the freeway, they tried to beat me again. And the guy in the car was about 20, backwards cap. And I could hear his engine.

And he started the race, left foot brake + accelerator to launch, trying to stall it up like an auto drag car at the lights. I'd say he was racing. Black Aurion Sportivo with chromies.

You're still talking about 3 year old used car with lots of kilometres versus a brand new car with no kilometres and full 3 year warranty. Many, many many people would rather own the brand new, 0km example with the full warranty.

Yes that is true, but there is no contest between a MKV GTI and a Fiesta, the V is a better car in every way with of course the exception of age...

my parents have an XR4 and i would say its not far off the GTI (2 seconds to a 100). plus sticks to the road like s*** to a blanket.

I've said it before - if I lived inner city and most of my miles were CBD or close to I'd have bought an XR4 - it just has that great chuckability that reminds me of my old Suzie Swift GTi that the standard Pog GTI doesnt have. But the GTI is overall a more polished performer for a wider range of driving conditions - and as all know, can be modded easily.

As with any car purchase you must consider where you are doing most of your kays and what you want out of the car.

Hell, I really liked the Ralliart Colt but at the time was doing 1000kms a week and would have found it hard to live with the Recaros on a daily basis and the hole in torque in 2nd was a real drag.

    I personally don't really give a f***k what a car looks like - it's how it drives.

When I get around to it the first real mods to my GTI will be brakes and suspension.

I'm already onto 2 points good behaviour bond for 12 months so a chip is just going to invite trouble.

For me, I get a bigger kick of really great turn in, flat handling and eye bulging braking than massive horsepower.

2 sec to 100km/h would be a massive difference. Multiple semi-trailer lengths gap. Its more like 0.6 sec.
