Is there something you really hate about this car?

I think maybe you are just upset you don't own a GTI and need to make yourself feel better.

EDIT: Wait a minute?! Last time you were really defensive on the XR6T and... well....all the Ford Falcon range. Now you are all-out backing the Ford Fiesta XR4. I've said it before to you and I'll say it again, I really think you're in the wrong brand of car. As harsh as that may sound, it seems that in your mind, nothing is better than a Ford.
I don't have a vendetta against the Polo GTI, I have a vendetta against stupidity. Both times when I've defended the Falcon XR6 Turbo and in this case the Fiesta XR4, people were putting them down for no good reason other then the badge. I'm not upset I don't own a GTI. I don't want a Polo GTI. Or a Fiesta XR4. If I was buying in this class, I'd take a look at both. Then walk straight past them to the RenaultSport Clio 197 and buy it over the both of them. Take the strengths of both cars (GTI's straight line, XR4's handling), put them both in one package, take away all the weaknesses, then make those strengths 5x better and you've got the 197.

I don't think the issue is with me. I think the issue is with you. You try to put down cars for no reason with no knowledge on your behalf to back up what you're saying. Then when you see that you've failed in doing that when somebody has pointed out fact (fact cannot be disputed) you try and cover yourself by trying to attack that person in some way (case in point this post I'm replying to).

    Result ________Polo GTI ____XR4
    0-100 __________8.0s _______8.9s
    0-140 _________14.9s _______16.0s (so 0.9 now is 1.1s)
    400m __________15.9s _______16.4s
    80-120 3rd ______5.4s ________5.7s
    80-120 4th ______6.6s ________7.2s
    80-120 5th ______8.6s ________9.8s (from 0.3s to a massive 1.2s worse)

So in effect the XR4 loses more and more time as the speeds climb not the opposite and the stock GTI increases its gap.

Imagine now if the XR4 gets 10% extra power and the GTI 40%. Does anybody even remotely believe that the gaps will be any closer .... LOL

And with that, MODS, please spare us any more pain ..... and close this degenerated thread.
That's fine, but don't take Wheels to heart. Their testing methodology is flawed and their results often do not reflect what the international motoring community acheives in the same vehicles.

And conveniantley you ignore the information I have posted over and over and over again, but I'll post it again for you...

Don't forget that when our pathetic Aussie car mags got their hands on the Polo GTI for the first time, they couldn't get below a low 16 in it (Motor were holding the record for a long time at 16.14). Only recently, after many years of testing it, taking one to the Dutton and having it as a long termer, have they developed the techniques to get it into the 15's. So explain to me why a 100kg lighter car with the same amount of power wouldn't be able to acheive the same sort of acceleration?

    1. Wow, now that's a great comparison ! A car worth nearly $37,000 , please tell me how thats relevant. I thought we were hanging around the mid $20K price bracket?? Yes the Clio will kill me on the track (from what i would guess due to superior handling setup) but after a $1,500 chip the $26,990 Polo has ~200bhp and ~330Nm of torque (APR V2 has been dyno'd up around 360Nm). The Clio has 197bhp and 215Nm of torque..... what would that result to in a straight line run. Quality wise, the Clio is superior, but not $10K superior!

I can not access that fastestlaps site or other comparable sites (our work internet has blocked them) but has anyone got some 1/4 times or anything for the 197 Clio.

    2. Fact?? Are car companies 0-100km/h claims 'fact' for you?? Yes achieved track times are fact (due to being unbiased) but are not even relevant to us and should not be used as we are not race car drivers and will never achieve those times.

I test drove the damn XR4, what reason/knowledge/back up do i need? Please tell me, i'd love to know. Maybe a Ford brochure is enough solid evidence for you.

Don't tell me I put down cars for no reason, I've got nothing against Ford. If i did, why would I test drive it in the first place?? I was seriously looking at it to buy.

FYI, I have no reason to cover anything up, I've got nothing to hide!

mods, please do not delete these posts, this is not intended to be aggressive attacks (not intended on my part anyway) but definitely useful arguments.

    1. Just re-iterating the point that at the end of the day I've got no special bias to either the Polo GTI or Fiesta XR4.

    2. Who is talking about claims? I am talking about tested figures.

You yourself have admitted to badge snobbery/brand bigotry and have tried to put down Ford vehicles in two threads I've seen because of it. Kinda paints a picture that you have something against the brand, no? If I'm wrong about that, I do apologise, but that's the message you convey, intentionally or otherwise.

If you've got nothing to cover up, then why attack me for being unbiased in my choosing of car brands and actually looking at this comparison with a slightly better view then "ZOMG my car is a VW so its mo' bettah!"

I'm guessing because the XR4 has 190Nm of torque compared to the 220Nm of the Polo GTI.

30Nm in a ~1000kg car is a huge amount, as you diesel boys would know.

I tried to get my gf into a Ford Focus only a few months ago but it worked out too expensive and she got a Nissan Micra (what she really wanted) at cost price instead.
