Working under the car - stands

    Hi,
Where's the safest place to situate car stands when working under the car? Is the housing for the lower control arm bush safe? OR the subframe? I'm using a hydraulic trolley jack.

I jack it up on the point that's about 6inches in behind the front wheels, but really not sure where to put the stands when under the car.

A response for front and rear points would be great.

I've found the LCA housings are good for axle-stands as they fit the contour really well.

As for the rear I've never had it on stands so I'll leave it to someone else to advise.

Thanks. I wasn't sure of the strength of the housing as it's an "unnatural" force on the casing, which looks almost like an alloy.

Glad you got a response on this one! When I asked, I yielded some pretty ridiculous answers.

I ended up sitting just behind the LCA casing where it mounts to the chassis along with what may also be the subframe. Force is directed vertically to the chassis with no other parts being used as leverage. Didn't look into the rear.

I stick the stands under the rear axle. At the front I put them under the subframe where there's 2 13mm bolts visible.
