so do we use a 0w40 or 5w40?
so do we use a 0w40 or 5w40?
Ok its more important to use 0w or 5w on engines with variable valve timing as heavier oil can slow down the operation of the vario cam. Turbo engines from experience when they get up the ks turbo spools quicker with the lighter weight oil, im happy using Magnatec on Polo but if you are stuck on fully synthetic if you have been feeding the engine that from day dot thats the go - sorry for any confusion earlier post. I had an A4 APU 1.8T have 10w40 Motul all its life and the owner decided for winter we would do 0W. When the engine got warm the oil light came on - too thin. And the thing was a handfull as it had a Ko4 and spooled up quicker with the 0w 40. Now back to Castrol on this particular engine we then used 0W60 Castrol and it cured it.
Remember the first prefix is for when the engine is cold (resistance to flow) and the second is for when the engine is warm so up the ks 0w40 is a bit thin IMO. If you like the idea of 0w then go the Castrol Edge 0w60 and Supercheap is doing great deals at the moment, with the Easter sale and all.
Also heard of a Daewoo Nubira non runner due to the wrong oil, it pump up the lifters too much and opened the valves off their seats. after a few flushes it then ran when the oil pressure had settled again. Oil is a very interesting topic, and there is too many good oils out there now, its your preference but just bear in mind the weighting.

Cheers for that, good to know, my engine is still new (13000km) so 0w40 I think is good for now. Once around 75000km plus thought it seems like a 5 or 10w would be the better option.
