I too had that noise last year, coming up to my 60k service.. thought it was something to do with the brakes.

Once the front pads and rotors were replaced (due to wear), the noise disappeared. Guessing something was just out of alignment, like the suggestions above.

are your tyres worn, or has it been a while since you had an alignment?

I had the exact same noise last year, had my tyres changed due to wear and then the noise disappeared and has never come back *touch wood*

My money is probably on the stone guard/disc guard as I've had a similar thing happen in the past.

yeah so it went back to VW this week, they told me it was the brakes and there was nothing they could do about it as they still worked fine. Funnily enough there was a guy there with a Golf R who has complaining of the same problem and they said the same to him....oh well the noise isnt that bad!

I've had a similar noise come up lately, and have followed all advice given in this thread but to no avail. I did jack the car up yesterday and took both front wheels to have a better look and did notice something. On the inner left brake pad there is a metal tab sticking out of the middle (embedded) about 2-3mm from the disk, whereas on the right there is nothing. Both sets of pads seem to have little wear. Can anyone advise as to what this metal tab would be?

    Cheers...

mine went away after a while, i had VW check it a number of times and was told it was the brakes every time, I wouldnt be too concerned with it.
