What I love about my GTI

    1. No kids to borrow Dad's car ... so it's Mine ... Mine ... Mine
    2. Looks of disbelief on the faces of "hotted-up" ricies when they discover they've made a mistake about it 'not being a REAL GTI',
    3. The "Nice car" comments from those who know cars (servo attendants etc. who see thousands of cars a day, etc.)
    4. The fact that after over a year it's still such a quality build as to feel like a new car.
    5. Outa the box (even without chipping) it's a hot wee beasty (even as std it has 83% of the 100hp/1000cc measure of a "Real" sports car)
    6. In comparison with all the cars I've owned (in a VERY long time ... bought my first hot mini in 196 this lil' beaut of a car goes like hell but is relatively cheap to run,
    7. Everything else I've missed.

    Love:

    1) Fuel Economy w/ APR
    2) Power w/ APR
    3) The ability to school most cars.
    4) Looks good.
    5) Price. I had a debate with a Mazda 3 MPS owner about this very subject - M3 MPS new is possibly around the $38K Mark(conservative). However, for a total of about $4K including Exhaust I can have a 180-190kW flywheel Polo GTi that still ends up with a final "vested" price of $26990+4000 or $31000.00. Used Price, 600kms on clock, leather, black bonnet, 17" Advanti's w/ Toyo Proxies. Eat that $38-40K M3 MPS without leather :-P
    6) Stock standard stereo system is exceptional. I've only upgraded the Headunit as I got sick of the iPOD MP3 plug-in from VW.

    Not-so-love:

    1) Suspension lets it down in some ways - however - this is EASILY fixable with trip to any decent workshow for some new springs. Not by any means a reason to pass this car up.
    2) Climate control non-existant(however - seeing if I can look at something to fix this)
    3) Windows wern't dark enough from Factory! - Fixed easily by Tint-a-Car.

And the ultimate not-so-love(yes - I'm joking here) - It needs the Audi S3 KKK K04 Turbo from factory to allow 180-190kW with a decent tune!

Got the thumbs up from a guy in a very tidy 350Z this morning on the Alfred St North off ramp coming off the Warringah Expressway in traffic, waiting for the lights at the Mount St. intersection.

Although he did ask 'Is that a Golf or a Polo?' - I'm frankly surprised that my complete bog-stock Polo got more attention from a guy in a 350Z than it does from drivers of other VWs. I guess the reputation of the little GTI is starting to spread outside VW circles.

My next plan : An advanced driver training/car control course, although I've got to ring the insurance company first.

    Hey everyone,

Just thought I'd introduce myself as a newbie.....

    Pete,
    06' Polo Gti, 20,000k's
Formally a Corolla Sportivo driver 03-06.

A convert to 'easy horses'.... the 1.8T doesn't have the mechanical thrash of Tivo at 8,400rpm..... but the power is easily accessable... much more driveable.

Stock at the moment.... I'm up for wheels (trying to get some S4 17's), chip and some suspension- I'm thinking F/R swaybars, and springs... then dampers at 40K's.

I like the size of the polo, I was interested in the golf, early on there was no 3 doors avail.... the 5 door is a bit chubby for me.

The engine/weight/size/$/tuneup package is by far, the best for what is a 'Super-Mini' class car. I've always had a monster in me, that wanted a 200hp supermini.

The overall feeling when driving, is exceptional.... it feels rock solid, even past 5,000rpm in 5th...... on smooth roads....

I like everything inside and out, except for- the suspension and tires--- the contis grip, but have soft sidewalls, and soft compound, even at 42psi. I wish all the black skirts around the car were colour-coded.

    9/10.

What do i love about my polo? um... since it is a 1.8T + 5MT and it can easly tune it up to +200bhp... in my place some people dun even know how to drive a manual .... so no body can borrow my lovely baby and also it looks like a mini Golf GTI so i fall in love with it... If it has 6MT i will love it more! i dunno why VW dun gave a 6MT in the polo... but the MK4 Golf GTI....

MKIV GTI here didn't get a 6 speed transmission only the MKIV R32 as far as I am aware anyway.

I had my wheel alignment and rotation done today and the mech made a comment about my car and said "So thats the new Golf GTI is it? Very Nice."

Obviously the two cars look similar in some styling ways but even a 10 yr old could tell the difference between the Polo and the Golf!
