Thanks guys, I'm fine (the airbag didn't even go off) but the poor PoD needs every bit of plastic ahead of and under the radiator replaced

I used the past tense, Sam, because my other half might not let me out on the track again

Unfortunate to hear Greg. We accept a level of risk when tracking our cars but it's easy to say, much harder to accept once we've done it. Could you drive it home? Last week at the track a mate had a radiator hose come in contact with the radiator fan on his Golf R (after a partial spin). We weren't able to confirm the hose at the track, so a $400 flat bed taxi home for this fella. A much cheaper fix than yours by the sound of it but still a kick in the guts Chin up.

We were gutted to see the polo come off the track but relieved to find out that Greg survived the incident without harm.

It was very alarming when they sent two ambulances to the crash site but apparently that's the protocol.

Hopefully Greg can get it all back together and head back out on the track before too long.

Glad you're OK Greg, a real shame about the car.

Very glad to hear you're ok mate. Looks pretty wet out there, I'm guessing that played a major part.

Glad to hear you are ok. If you feel comfortable with it, can you tell us how it happened? I'm guessing it let go (wet) in a corner? I've not had issues in the Polo, but had a go in a friends old Porsche and lifted off the accelerator late corner and lost it all together. Was lucky there was no barriers / cars near me at the time.

Damage looks fairly cosmetic, but I wouldn't be thinking that if it were mine...

First of all, I'd like to give my external thanks to Peter Jones and his wife Jody who took time out of their own track sessions to help me band aid up my front end using their supply of gaffer tape and cable ties so that I was able to drive home without any issues.

Thanks guys, I'm going to be doing some serious bargaining with the other half to keep tracking the PoD (especially with all the parts I've "acquired" which are still waiting to be installed )

The track was wetter where I went off but the issue was that I took the wrong entry line 'cos I caught up with some cars that I had let past a few corners earlier (I'm now guessing that they were using me as a sighter for their lines) and the spray off their tyres made me misjudge my track position. Being off the dry(er) line made the back step out as I turned in and I didn't have the guts the mash the accelerator to even out the slip angles so I half spun on the grass and then the car caught and ran into the tyre wall.

There's a lot I could have done and didn't - I could have thrown the wheel into the turn to spin the car more or jump on the brakes to lock everything up but I just kept countersteering even after I ran out of lock. I guess I was scared of re-entering the track out of control and getting in the path of another car

Anyway, I'll put the GoPro footage up when I feel up to editing it.

    Hoyhoy.

Greg, thats a very nice honest statement you just made.
Recalling what went wrong only helps for next time, if you love doing it tell the other half, she has to understand what life is all about. (Its short as is.)(The Missus & myself have recently lost a lot of very close relatives & friends due to natural causes.)(O.K. we are much older than yourself.)
BUT the statement is, "should I or shouldn't I".
There are plenty of different dangerous things that you can do, this isn't anywhere near top of the list.
May be tell her that ya only going to do safer tracks in the future. (Thats why I like Wakefeild Park)

P.S. I'm only trying to help.
    Hooroo.
