My friends are organizing a dinner Friday (that i don't feel like going to, ha) nevertheless i'll probably have to make an appearance, but hopefully i'll make it down to Tim's afterwards and say hello
Hehe, @thunderVW - So true, my first car was an old decrepit bmw that I worked blood sweat and tears to earn enough just to buy haha! and now look at me! rep'in a Polo like a boss! LOL ...
... subsequently, I've had 3 of those bmw's since and maybe tried to destroy one in particular (sig, hint, lol!)

Yeah, but your car isn't supposed to be a cheap town runabout
Anyway, it's back from the mechanic and the clunk is gone - we're still not sure where it went as enough things were taken off and reinstalled/replaced that it could have been various things.
Many thanks to Jmac for his fantastic advice with the rear LCA bush replacement.

Bought new stretch bolts for my RHS engine mount and pendulum mount. I re-used all the old bolts when I replaced both, and it's been bugging me since.
Keen to get the car back with the new clutch and timing belt kit from Camden GTI...
I'm going to start buying proper hardened bolts to replace the stretch ones as I do or have more work done to my car.
Those stupid stretch things are only used to make automated assembly easier (or assembly by semiskilled labour without torque wrenches). My mechanic fully agrees with me on this.
If the car could be redesigned to use the appropriate hardened bolts where stretch ones are now being used, you could shed a bit of weight.

New ECS clutch kit, new timing belt kit, and new lower control arm bushes.
This is the problem that I now have... ECS Stage 1 Clutch noise, VW Polo GTI - YouTube
Sigh. Taking it back to Camden GTI tomorrow morning for a fix.
Went for a drive after changing the gearbox fluid. Much better now
