Drove over the Reefton Spur with the family to Marysville (daughter in the back child seat going "WHEE!!!" and wife grimly holding on to the roof handle with both hands) with VERY little traffic averaging 4.4 l/100km MFD (4.7 actual)

Then drove home via the Black Spur averaging 3.7 l/100km MFD (4.0 actual)

A quick question regarding modding of the Polo...
I'm having an argument with my brother regarding warranty purposes about replacing the air intake. He has a Polo GTI which he picked up a few months back,.and I'm waiting for my scirocco to arrive I've being doing a bit of reading wrt to warranty and modifications we can't seem to find much information about air intakes, we found heaps of info about ECU and exhausts.

We honestly tried searching through countless threads and google, but with no luck about Australian VW warranty.

Now the obvious question... Will a cold air intake void the cars warranty in any way, or is there a company that VW approve their performance parts.

    Many thanks
    Adam

There are a number of arguements to all warranty related issues. If something should be fine and its not, then what? If an aftermarket item does not affect a mechanical issue, but the service agent disagrees, then what...

The short answer is that if its a good brand, well designed filter, it should be fine. As its not really impacting the mechanical side of things (i.e. its all before the air flow filter), there is not too much they can say... is there?

Which car are we talking about, if its the Polo, be happy with the overpriced PD160 intake (which is made for the Seat diesel version of our car) and be done with it.

If you are concerned, call your service center.

I agree. This is such a grey area. There are too many variables involved.

Thanks for the reply.. He was thinking under my advice for the ITG intake for the GTI. I think they're a good brand???

But as you mentioned I will call around in the new year to double check VWA and the dealer.

    Many Thanks

    Happy New Year to ALL!!

For a Polo? not the current Polo (6R)? I've not heard of an ITG one for our car... Can you provide a link?

I suspect its a generic intake and i still recommend your brother get the car chipped and a PD160. anything else is open for discussion, but this combo is going to give the best yield for Aus conditions.

I have seen the ITG in action on a 6R GTI. Dyno proven with awesome results on a build thread on the UK polo forum. I didn't know they did a 9n intake though?
