I first thought my TDi MIGHT need a rear anti-roll bar but wasn't convinced of the need after several reasonably paced cruises. The built in understeer meant over commitment into a turn could be safely handled even if some mid corner braking was required.

After fitting a Bilstein cup kit and a few track days, I don't feel the car needs it at all (at the limit I can get some some mild lift off oversteer to help point the car) unless the GTi has a much stiffer front anti-roll bar than TDi. Even then, you could try a lighter front anti-roll bar to adjust the balance by adding grip to the front rather than reducing it at the rear with a rear anti-roll bar.

Finally got around to getting a flat tyre checked out, and turns out the entire sidewall had gone, good work stock Continental tyres.

So I ended up replacing the fronts with some BFG G-Force Sports after seeing the name mentioned in the tyre thread. Have only driven 20km on them on partially wet roads, so can't really comment.

More importantly, it's made me decide to spend more money on my car, I think it's time to get it tuned. Time to do some research on the pros/cons and $$$ of all the major providers. APR, GIAC, DNA..... where do I start? Looks like I'll be doing some reading this weekend.

you could probably START, by coming to tim's (dub addiction) workshop, and peeps there might take you for a spin in their differently tuned cars, just to give you a taste.

tim has peeps hanging out at his workshop every friday night, down on prinny highway, i think it is.

I'll be there tonight if you want to see what a GIAC tune will do to a Polo

Can't make it tonight, but I'll keep it in mind.
I was under the impression though that all the tunes would be roughly the same on an otherwise unmodified polo? Or is that some crap I picked up from somewhere.... :p

the tunes can be very different....

not just in terms of peak power outputs on an otherwise stock polo, but also how they drive / where the torque comes on etc...

i mean, yes, on a stock car it's gonna be pretty much the same, i guess - if you're looking for bang for buck, a tune is the best way to go, and it'd just make sense to find a compromise between finding someone reputable to do it, and finding a tune with a reasonable price.

being in melbourne, you have good options - giac, dna, apr, evolve technik etc.

Went for a good blat in the pog after i picked it up, loved it! The car is like a go-kart. I think i will really enjoy driving this car. Also so many cool little quirks about it, storage trays under the seats, right wiper stalk also has the button to change trip computer etc. Love it. My only gripe, is headlights do not turn off automatically, can this be changed somehow? I always like to drive with lights on no matter what conditions.

My first mod was a sticker, and bee-sting antenna, however the bee-sting can't get good enough reception for my iTrip, so back to the stock antenna.

    Cheers

Just get an iPod/iPad adaptor that plugs into the back of the stereo. It will cost you about $150 landed from the UK, takes about 10min to install, and comes with the tools you need to do it. I got mine from XCarLink.
