Damn straight I am lol. Went out and measured the clearance, another 35 mm drop would sit well i'm thinking, looking forward to those spacers arriving!

Ok so after a little digging it seems as though some H&R springs wouldn't cost too much to acquire.

My question to those who DO have a clue about this (read: not me!) is it advisable/acceptable to just change the springs?
Should the shocks be upgraded as well?

Depends who you ask and what you are after.

Some have installed this combo and have been happily running it for years, personally my shocks gave out after a while.

Given you can get Weitec coilies for something like $800 landed, it's worth the extra given you have to get it installed (assuming you'll be paying).

By the time you do that, are prepared to replace a strut bearing, replace the rear control arm bushes.......... etc, it adds up.

The result is worth it IMO, I'd hit up one of the local boys for a demo. A Polo that really corners is a Polo to love.

Put my stock wheels back on after sitting in the garage for 2 years. They look so small!!

Hi mate, I initially ran the H&R's, and have since added bilstein inserts. If you're not into driving hard, or on rough/undulating roads, the H&R's only are best described as sufficient. As the speed increases, it becomes obvious that it's mismatched. They won't make the car handle any better on smooth roads than the standard set up, and are worse as the surface deteriorates. I can back this up from trackdays and my lap times.

The car will have more bounce with H&R's only and that is evident at typical driving speeds, e.g. crossing traffic lights where trucks have caused some subsidence, bouncey bounce.

Any spring strut combo will cost more than the Weitic, each to their own but I'm a believer of you get what you pay for. And I'm happy with the bilstein. Koni was the other alternative, but with some effort in sourcing, the price difference was minimal.

What seangti has said - lowering springs on their own will improve transient response but are a backwards step in EVERY other area, performancewise. Some people like them for the pose value but it compromises performance and will cause the stock dampers to wear out more quickly (exacerbating the issue).

Is this to clear the guards after the roo hit or did that damage your wheels too?

The wheels are fine, bit the guard is hitting the sidewalls on some bumps where the damage is, so I thought I would change them over.

My car has been assessed, and I got the repairer I wanted, so it's all booked in to get fixed. It's basically a full front and side respray, it it will look great when done.
