Finally finishing read every bit of this thread.

Time to contribute, installed BMC Panel filter & Seat PD160 kit last night; too much traffic havent been able to test it yet

Giac ecu flash 2 weeks away and then the modification journey starts Would be happy with 150kw atw's (need a bigger turbo i think?)

150 atw is probably a K04, but I would not bother with that and go straight to a Garrett. Either be prepared to spend more than 5k if you can't do it yourself for retail pricing.

Def worth getting a ride in a worked K03 to see if that will satisfy, or hold off on the flash and talk to Gav at CC.

I hope you do, we are in need of some more big build threads.

<3 Garrett. Warranty is still valid for 6 months, so mild upgrades until then

I'm having my K04 put in my car next week, wouldn't have cost me any more than $2500. If your thinking of going down the chip route, I'd source yourself a K04 and then get the tune from GAIC to suit. Rather than wasting money on a tune that your going to replace 12 months down the track when you decide to get a K04, or if you have in upwards of 10k, a gt28.

K04 is execellent turbo for the polo.
lot's of torque in lower RPM and enough Hp and more breath in higher RPM.
stock K03s is a bit slower after 5500rpm, much better with a k04.
this will be my update when the stock Turbo has had his best moments

Garret is also verry good and gives superb power in high RPM, but under 3000rpm, you will loose from a Twingo :-p
it's just what you want to drive around with and what suits and feels best for yourself.

IHI also has verry good turbo's, wich give about 350Hp on a 1.8 20VT engine.
    available from 2500 untill 7000.
but it gives so much torque in low RPM that it CAN destroy your internals or gearbox...(depends on drivestyle also)
    GT28RS is safer in that.

This is correct, I've actually seen many graphs and the general trend is a K04 makes more power than a gt28 up until 3500 or so. So really for every day sort of stuff a K04 is a much better option. Yes it doesn't produce massive power over a K03 but it gives more torque under the curve which is what I'm after. And I'm not going to spend 10-15k on a gt28 when the car is only worth 15k.
Also, I believe there are more gains to be had with the Mk4 as we only got a K03, whereas pogs got the K03s...

Where are you getting these numbers? I was quoted $7k for the GT28, tune and accessories, it would not be hard to spend a lot more than that on the gearbox, cams, etc.

I've read the K04 is laggy with not much more power than the Ko3, but not having been in one, it's all second hand info.

All in all, it's fun working the 1.8t's up, they have a lot of potential.

I hope to see some new threads with your builds soon.
