as per noone said, look into Koni too. very nice ride and at the top of my list when the time comes. when sourced locally, expect around $1400 for struts alone for either brand. There are better prices with some shopping around (closer to the $1000).

Thanks guys for suggesting options. Unfortunately cashflow is the only restriction. So I might have to go with a dogbone mount, H&R springs and bushes for the time being. I've only hit 1000km on the car so the stock shocks should be alright until I get the Koni's.

around town the H&Rs are fine, not a complaint in the world, though as the speed increases, the setup looses composure. Small irregularities in the road become obvious, almost to the point of regret. looks much better though.

Do agree, that a lot of those expensive cars do have multilink set up at the back. Torsion beam on ours do provide good cornering in track settings (where the road is mostly even) and I believe some V8 tour race cars actually have torsion beam at the back (as I was told) for this reason.

About snap oversteer - I've tracked my car a few times, with RSB only and with RSB and FSB upgrades. RSB will tend to make it more exciting drive with mild oversteer at times, but haven't noticed any snap oversteer. This could be all due to the road conditions as well, camber / slipperiness / etc etc. The same road with different temperature / wetness, will never be the same in real setting.

FSB + RSB make the car very neutral. The car is very very predictable at its limit. No sudden surprises. I could really push the car without the question mark...

It's all about costs / gains. I would love to get new matching shocks, but H&R springs alone - livable currently. Not the most comfortable ride I do have to agree.

    Hope this all makes sense.
    06 Polo GTI - REVO Stage 2 = 140kw @ wheels.
06 Golf GTI - Bluefin Stage 1 blacked out with ED30 theme, leather, xenon, etc.

What would you suggest other than H&R's? I think this topic has been done before but I wouldn't want to buy something only to dislike what I've bought.

The springs are good, its the shocks that suffer. The stiffer springs really need stiffer shocks to give better handling, with soft shocks the ride can be bouncy and unrefined. The springs tend to be the cheap part of the equation, but with fitting new springs / shocks costing in the area of $250-$400, its not something you want to pay for 2wice if it can be avoided. I'm not sure if it was like that from day 1, but seems to be getting slowly worse (not bad, just not great).
