Yeah...Repairs won't get started till the 12th of jan, so I miss out on Big Day Out, and may have to fly back to Townsville, and get dad to drive back up later on. Very uncool...And I feel like a friggen tool.

Yeah, just one of those things...Looking at the wrong car at the wrong time. The guy I hit was cool about it, and he could drive away. Now have no wheels in a foreign land...

Sorry to hear mate. But why can't you drive the car if it's only a few broken bits on the front end?

Cheers man. Plastic from the grill holed the A/C condenser and the radiator, so I cant drive the car. It was only a low speed hit(me>5km/h, and him>10km/h), but it has bent the crash bar behind the bumper too. Like I said, mostly cosmetic, but because of the radiator, undrivable. Dosn't make me any less of an idiot though.

bummer wonder how far off you were to setting off the airbags? maybe they need structural damage before they blow?

AFAIK, airbags work off the ABS sensors. they'll go off if the rate of deceleration is high enough.

That wouldn't work because if you were not touching the ground with tyres when you hit something they wheels wouldn't slow down. Or when you get hit from behind.

i can't remember where i read that.. but anyway turns out its a bit more complicated
"Airbag control unit" (ACU) monitors a number of related sensors within the vehicle, including accelerometers, impact sensors, wheel speed sensors, gyroscopes, brake pressure sensors, and seat occupancy sensors.
